Job 9
1Then Iyov answered and said, 1
2I know it is indeed thus, 1 but how should yitzdak Enosh im El (Man be in the right, justified, before G-d)? 1
3If he will contend with Him, 1 once of a thousand can Man not answer G-d back. 1
4G-d is chochom in lev, and mighty in ko'ach; 1 who hath hardened himself to defy Him and remained unhurt? 1
5Which removeth the harim (mountains), and they know not; 1 which overturneth them in His anger; 1
6Which shaketh eretz out of its place, 1 and the ammudim thereof tremble; 1
7Which commandeth the cheres (sun), and it riseth not; 1 and sealeth up the kokhavim; 1
8Which spreadeth out Shomayim by Himself alone, 1 and treadeth upon the waves of the yam; 1
9Which maketh the Bear, 1 Orion, and the Pleiades, 1 and the chambers of the constellations on the south side of the heavens; 1
10Which doeth gedolot past finding out; 1 yea, and nifla'ot (wonders) without number. 1
11Hen (lo), He passeth by me, and I see Him not; 1 He goeth on also, but I perceive Him not. 1
12Hinei, He taketh away, who can stop Him? 1 Who will say unto Him, Mah ta'aseh (what are You doing)? 1
13If Eloah restraineth not His anger, 1 the helpers of Rahab must bow themselves under Him. 1
14How much less shall I dispute with Him, 1 and choose my devarim with Him? 1
15Whom, though I were tzaddik (righteous, innocent, in the right), yet would I not answer, 1 but I would make techinnah (supplication, plea for mercy) for my mishpat (right). 1
16If I had summoned, and He had responded to me, 1 yet would I not believe that He had paid heed unto my kol (voice); 1
17For He breaketh me in a sa'arah (tempest, storm), 1 and multiplieth my wounds without cause. 1
18He will not allow me to take my ruach (breath), 1 but filleth me with bitterness. 1
19If I speak of ko'ach, hinei, He is mighty, 1 and if of mishpat, who can give Him a court summons? 1
20If etzdak (I am justified, in the right), mine own mouth would condemn me; 1 if I say, I am blameless, He would prove me perverse. 1
21Though I were blameless, 1 yet would I not know my nefesh; 1 I would despise my life. 1
22This is one thing; therefore I said it, 1 He destroyeth the tam (blameless) and the rasha (wicked). 1
23If the shot (scourge) slay suddenly, 1 He laugheth at the melting away [in anguish] of the nekiyim (innocent ones, the guiltless ones). 1
24Eretz is given into the yad of the resha; 1 He blindfoldeth the faces of the shofetim (judges) thereof; 1 if not, then, who doeth it? 1
25Now my yamim are swifter than a runner; 1 they flee away, they see no tovah. 1
26They slip by like oniyyot (boats) of reed; 1 as the nesher that swoopeth down on the prey. 1
27If I say, I will forget my si'akh (complaint), 1 I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself, 1
28I am afraid of all my sorrows; 1 I have da'as that Thou wilt not hold me innocent. 1
29If I be wicked, 1 why then labor I in hevel (vain)? 1
30If I wash myself with sheleg (snow), 1 and make my hands clean with lye, 1
31Yet shalt Thou plunge me in the shachat (slime pit), 1 and mine own clothes shall abhor me. 1
32For He is not an ish, as I am, that I should answer Him, 1 and we should come together in mishpat (in the court). 1
33Neither is there any mochiach (arbitrator) between us, 1 that might lay his yad upon us both. 1
34Let Him take His shevet (rod) away from me, 1 and let not His fear terrify me. 1
35Then would I speak, and not fear Him; 1 but it is not ken (so) with me.
