Job 15

Then answered Eliphaz the Temani, and said, 1

Should a chacham (wise man) utter vain knowledge, 1 and fill his inner being with the east wind? 1

Should he reason with unprofitable davar (talk)? 1 Or with speeches wherewith no good is done? 1

Yea, thou makest void yireh [Elohim], 1 and doth diminish si'akh (meditation) before El. 1

For thy mouth uttereth thine avon, 1 and thou choosest the leshon arumim (tongue of the crafty). 1

Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and loh Ani (not I); 1 yea, thine own lips testify against thee. 1

Art thou harishon adam (the first man) that was born? 1 Or wast thou made before the hills? 1

Hast thou attended to the sod Eloah (counsel of G-d)? 1 And dost thou limit chochmah to thyself? 1

Of what dost thou have da'as, that we know not? 1 What understandest thou, which is not in us? 1

Both the grayheaded and very aged men are among us, 1 much elder than avicha. 1

Are the tanechumot El (consolations of G-d) not enough for thee? 1 Or the davar that deals gently with thee? 1

Why doth thine lev carry thee away? 1 And why do thy eyes flash, 1

That thou ventest thy ruach against El (G-d), 1 and lettest such words pour out of thy mouth? 1

What is enosh, that he should be pure [in the sight of Hashem]? 1 And he which is born of an isha, that yitzdak (he should be in the right)? 1

If He trusteth not His Kedoshim; 1 yea, Shomayim is not pure in His eyes. 1

How much more vile and corrupt is ish, 1 which drinketh iniquity like mayim? 1

I will show thee, shema to me; 1 and that which I have seen I will declare; 1

Things which chachamim declare 1 from their avot without concealment; 1

Unto whom alone ha'aretz was given, 1 and no zar passed among them. 1

The reshah travaileth with pain all his yamim, 1 and numbered shanim are reserved for the oppressor. 1

A dreadful sound is in his oznayim; 1 during shalom the shoded (destroyer) shall come upon him. 1

He believeth not in a return from choshech, 1 and he is marked for the cherev. 1

He wandereth about after lechem, saying, Where is it? 1 He has da'as the Yom Choshech is near at hand for him. 1

Distress and anguish shall make him afraid; 1 they shall seize him as a melech poised for battle. 1

For he stretcheth out his yad against El (G-d), 1 and with insolence vaunts himself against Shaddai. 1

He charges against Him, with a stiff neck, 1 with the thick bosses of his mogen (shield); 1

Though he covereth his panim with his fatness, 1 and addeth fat on his flanks; 1

And he dwelleth in desolate towns, 1 and in batim (houses) which no man inhabiteth, 1 which are ready to crumble to rubble. 1

He shall not be osher, neither shall his substance continue; 1 neither shall their possessions spread over ha'aretz. 1

He shall not escape from choshech; 1 the flame shall wither his branches, 1 and in the ruach of his mouth shall he perish. 1

Let not him that is deceived trust in shav (vanity); 1 for shav shall be his recompense. 1

His Yom is not yet; 1 then it is accomplished, and his branch shall not flourish. 1

He shall shake off his unripe grape like the gefen, 1 and shall cast off his blossom like the zayit (olive tree). 1

For the Adat Chanef (congregation of hypocrites) shall be barren, 1 and eish shall consume the ohalim of bribery. 1

They conceive amal (trouble), and give birth to evil, 1 and their belly worketh mirmar (deceit).
