Job 16
Then Iyov answered and said, 1
I have heard many such things; 1 menachamei amal (miserable comforters) are ye all. 1
Shall divrei ruach (vain words) have an end? 1 Or what provoketh thee that thou answerest? 1
I also could speak as ye do; 1 if your nefesh were in place of my nefesh, 1 I could heap up words against you, 1 and shake mine head at you. 1
But I would strengthen you with my mouth, 1 and the moving of my shfatayim (lips) should relieve your grief. 1
Though I speak, my grief is not relieved, 1 and though I forbear, mah (what) alleviation is it for me? 1
But now He hath worn me out; 1 Thou hast made desolate kol adat (whole household) of me. 1
And Thou hast filled me with wrinkles, 1 which is an ed (witness) against me; 1 and my leanness rising up in me 1 beareth witness to my face. 1
He teareth me in his wrath, who warreth against me; 1 He gnasheth upon me with His shinayim (teeth); 1 mine adversary sharpeneth His eyes against me. 1
They have struck at me with their mouth; 1 they have struck me upon the lekhi (cheek) reproachfully; + 16:10 Isa 50:6; Lam 3:30 1 they have conspired themselves together against me. 1
El hath delivered me to evil men, 1 and turned me over into the hands of the resha'im. 1
I was at ease, but He hath shattered me; 1 He hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, 1 and set me up for His mattarah (object of attack, target). 1
His archers surround me, 1 He pierces my klayot (kidneys), 1 and doth not show mercy; He poureth out my gall upon the ground. 1
He bursteth upon me again and again; 1 He runneth upon me like a gibbor (warrior). 1
I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, 1 and laid my keren (horn, strength) in the aphar (dust). 1
My face is red with weeping, 1 and on my eyelids is the tzalmavet; 1
Not for any chamas in mine hands; 1 also my tefillah is pure. 1
O earth, cover not thou my dahm, 1 and let my outcry have no makom (place of rest). 1
Also now, hinei, my Ed is in Shomayim, 1 and my Sahed (witness, one who vouches for me) is on high. + 16:19 MJ 4:15 1
My friends scorn me; 1 but mine eye poureth out tears unto Eloah. 1
O that one might plead for a man with Eloah, 1 as a man pleadeth for his neighbor! 1
When a few shanot are come, 1 then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
