Job 30

But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, 1 whose avot I would have disdained to have set 1 with the dogs of my tzon. 1

Yea, what use was the koach of their hands to me, 1 since their vigor hath perished? 1

For choser (want, lack) and hunger 1 they gnawed the parched ground desolate and waste. 1

They cut up mallow plants by the bushes, 1 and juniper roots for their lechem. 1

They were banished from among men, 1 (they shouted after them as after a ganav); 1

To dwell in the clefts of the wadis, 1 in holes of aphar, and in the rocks. 1

Among the bushes they brayed; 1 tachat (under) the underbrush they were huddled together. 1

They were bnei naval, yea, sons of base men; 1 they were driven forth out of ha'aretz. 1

And atah (now) am I their mocking song, 1 yea, I am their byword. 1

They abhor me, they flee far from me, 1 and spare not rok (spit) in my face. + 30:10 Mt 26:67 1

Because He hath loosed my bowstring, and afflicted me, 1 they have also let loose the resen (bridle) before me. 1

Upon my yamin (right hand) rise up the rabble; 1 they push away my feet, 1 and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction. 1

They break up my road, 1 they set forward my overthrow, they have no ozer (helper). 1

They approach me as through a wide breach; 1 in the shoah (desolation, Holocaust), they rolled themselves upon me. 1

Ballahot (terrors) are turned upon me; 1 they pursue my dignity like the ruach, 1 and my safety passeth away like a cloud. 1

And now my nefesh ebbs away from me; 1 the yemei oni have taken hold upon me. 1

My atzmot are pierced in me in the night, 1 and my gnawing pains take no rest. 1

By great koach is my garment disfigured; 1 it bindeth me about like the collar of my kuttonet (chiton, robe). 1

He hath cast me into the chomer, 1 and I am become like aphar and ashes. 1

I cry unto Thee, and Thou dost answer me lo (not); 1 I stand up, and Thou regardest me not. 1

Thou art become cruel to me; 1 with Thy strong yad Thou opposest Thyself against me. 1

Thou liftest me up to the ruach; 1 Thou causest me to drive along, and vanish in the roaring of the storm. 1

For I know that Thou wilt bring me down to mavet, 1 to the bais mo'ed l'khol chai. 1

Yet will not one stretch out his yad in a heap of ruin, 1 or cry out for help in his disaster. 1

Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? 1 Was not my nefesh grieved for the evyon (needy)? 1

When I looked for tov, 1 then rah came unto me; 1 and when I waited for ohr, 1 there came ofel (darkness). 1

My bowels boiled, and rested not; 1 yemei oni met me. 1

I went mourning without the sun; 1 I stood up, and I cried out in the kahal. 1

I am an ach to jackals, 1 and a re'a to owls. 1

My ohr (skin) grows black upon me, 1 and my atzmot are burned with fever. 1

My kinnor (harp) also is turned to evel (mourning), 1 and my flute into the voice of them that weep.
