Isaiah 10
1Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, 1 And that write grievousness which they have prescribed; 1
2To turn aside the needy from judgment, 1 And to take away the right from the poor of my people, 1 That widows may be their prey, 1 And that they may rob the fatherless. 1
3And what will ye do in the day of visitation, 1 And in the desolation which shall come from far? 1 To whom will ye flee for help? 1 And where will ye leave your glory? 1
4Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, 1 And they shall fall under the slain. 1 For all this his anger is not turned away, 1 But his hand is stretched out still. 1
5O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, 1 And the staff in their hand is mine indignation. 1
6I will send him against a hypocritical nation, 1 And against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, 1 To take the spoil, and to take the prey, 1 And to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 1
7Howbeit he meaneth not so, 1 Neither doth his heart think so; 1 But it is in his heart to destroy 1 And cut off nations not a few. 1
8For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings? 1
9Is not Calno as Carchemish? 1 Is not Hamath as Arpad? 1 Is not Samaria as Damascus? 1
10As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, 1 And whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; 1
11Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, 1 So do to Jerusalem and her idols? 1
12Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work 1 Upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, 1 I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, 1 And the glory of his high looks. 1
13For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, 1 And by my wisdom; for I am prudent: 1 And I have removed the bounds of the people, 1 And have robbed their treasures, 1 And I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: 1
14And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: 1 And as one gathereth eggs that are left, 1 Have I gathered all the earth; 1 And there was none that moved the wing, 1 Or opened the mouth, or peeped. 1
15Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? 1 Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? 1 As if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, 1 Or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood. 1
16Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, 1 Send among his fat ones leanness; 1 And under his glory he shall kindle a burning 1 Like the burning of a fire. 1
17And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, 1 And his Holy One for a flame: 1 And it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; 1
18And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, 1 Both soul and body: 1 And they shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth. 1
19And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, 1 That a child may write them. 1
20And it shall come to pass in that day, 1 That the remnant of Israel, 1 And such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, 1 Shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; 1 But shall stay upon the Lord, 1 The Holy One of Israel, in truth. 1
21The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, 1 Unto the mighty God. 1
22For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, 1 Yet a remnant of them shall return: 1 The consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness. 1
23For the Lord God of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, 1 In the midst of all the land. 1
24Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, 1 O my people that dwellest in Zion, 1 Be not afraid of the Assyrian: 1 He shall smite thee with a rod, 1 And shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt. 1
25For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, 1 And mine anger in their destruction. 1
26And the Lord of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him 1 According to the slaughter of Midian at the rock Oreb: 1 And as his rod was upon the sea, 1 So shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt. 1
27And it shall come to pass in that day, 1 That his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, 1 And his yoke from off thy neck, 1 And the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. 1
28He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; 1 At Michmash he hath laid up his carriages: 1
29They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; 1 Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled. 1
30Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: 1 Cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth. 1
31Madmenah is removed; 1 The inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee. 1
32As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: 1 He shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, 1 The hill of Jerusalem. 1
33Behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, 1 Shall lop the bough with terror: 1 And the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, 1 And the haughty shall be humbled. 1
34And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, 1 And Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
