Isaiah · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Isaiah 58

Cry aloud, spare not, 1 Lift up thy voice like a trumpet, 1 And shew my people their transgression, 1 And the house of Jacob their sins. 1

Yet they seek me daily, 1 And delight to know my ways, 1 As a nation that did righteousness, 1 And forsook not the ordinance of their God: 1 They ask of me the ordinances of justice; 1 They take delight in approaching to God. 1

Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? 1 Wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? 1 Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, 1 And exact all your labours. 1

Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, 1 And to smite with the fist of wickedness: 1 Ye shall not fast as ye do this day, 1 To make your voice to be heard on high. 1

Is it such a fast that I have chosen? 1 A day for a man to afflict his soul? 1 Is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, 1 And to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? 1 Wilt thou call this a fast, 1 And an acceptable day to the Lord? 1

Is not this the fast that I have chosen? 1 To loose the bands of wickedness, 1 To undo the heavy burdens, 1 And to let the oppressed go free, 1 And that ye break every yoke? 1

Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, 1 And that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? 1 When thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; 1 And that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? 1

Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, 1 And thine health shall spring forth speedily: 1 And thy righteousness shall go before thee; 1 The glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward. 1

Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; 1 Thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. 1 If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, 1 The putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; 1

And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, 1 And satisfy the afflicted soul; 1 Then shall thy light rise in obscurity, 1 And thy darkness be as the noonday: 1

And the Lord shall guide thee continually, 1 And satisfy thy soul in drought, 1 And make fat thy bones: 1 And thou shalt be like a watered garden, 1 And like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. 1

And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: 1 Thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; 1 And thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, 1 The restorer of paths to dwell in. 1

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, 1 From doing thy pleasure on my holy day; 1 And call the sabbath a delight, 1 The holy of the Lord, honourable; 1 And shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, 1 Nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 1

Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; 1 And I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, 1 And feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: 1 For the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
