Isaiah 42
Behold my servant, whom I uphold; 1 Mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; 1 I have put my spirit upon him: 1 He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 1
He shall not cry, nor lift up, 1 Nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. 1
A bruised reed shall he not break, 1 And the smoking flax shall he not quench: 1 He shall bring forth judgment unto truth. 1
He shall not fail nor be discouraged, 1 Till he have set judgment in the earth: 1 And the isles shall wait for his law. 1
Thus saith God the Lord, 1 He that created the heavens, and stretched them out; 1 He that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; 1 He that giveth breath unto the people upon it, 1 And spirit to them that walk therein: 1
I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, 1 And will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, 1 And give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; 1
To open the blind eyes, 1 To bring out the prisoners from the prison, 1 And them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. 1
I am the Lord: that is my name: 1 And my glory will I not give to another, 1 Neither my praise to graven images. 1
Behold, the former things are come to pass, 1 And new things do I declare: 1 Before they spring forth I tell you of them. 1
Sing unto the Lord a new song, 1 And his praise from the end of the earth, 1 Ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; 1 The isles, and the inhabitants thereof. 1
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, 1 The villages that Kedar doth inhabit: 1 Let the inhabitants of the rock sing, 1 Let them shout from the top of the mountains. 1
Let them give glory unto the Lord, 1 And declare his praise in the islands. 1
The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man, 1 He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: 1 He shall cry, yea, roar; 1 He shall prevail against his enemies. 1
I have long time holden my peace; 1 I have been still, and refrained myself: 1 Now will I cry like a travailing woman; 1 I will destroy and devour at once. 1
I will make waste mountains and hills, 1 And dry up all their herbs; 1 And I will make the rivers islands, 1 And I will dry up the pools. 1
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; 1 I will lead them in paths that they have not known: 1 I will make darkness light before them, 1 And crooked things straight. 1 These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. 1
They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, 1 That say to the molten images, Ye are our gods. 1
Hear, ye deaf; 1 And look, ye blind, that ye may see. 1
Who is blind, but my servant? 1 Or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? 1 Who is blind as he that is perfect, 1 And blind as the Lord’s servant? 1
Seeing many things, but thou observest not; 1 Opening the ears, but he heareth not. 1
The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; 1 He will magnify the law, and make it honourable. 1
But this is a people robbed and spoiled; 1 They are all of them snared in holes, 1 And they are hid in prison houses: 1 They are for a prey, and none delivereth; 1 For a spoil, and none saith, Restore. 1
Who among you will give ear to this? 1 Who will hearken and hear for the time to come? 1
Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? 1 Did not the Lord, he against whom we have sinned? 1 For they would not walk in his ways, 1 Neither were they obedient unto his law. 1
Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: 1 And it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; 1 And it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
