Isaiah 30
1Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, 1 That take counsel, but not of me; 1 And that cover with a covering, but not of my Spirit, 1 That they may add sin to sin: 1
2That walk to go down into Egypt, 1 And have not asked at my mouth; 1 To strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, 1 And to trust in the shadow of Egypt. 1
3Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, 1 And the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. 1
4For his princes were at Zoan, 1 And his ambassadors came to Hanes. 1
5They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, 1 Nor be a help nor profit, 1 But a shame, and also a reproach.
6The burden of the beasts of the south: 1 Into the land of trouble and anguish, 1 From whence come the young and old lion, 1 The viper and fiery flying serpent, 1 They will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, 1 And their treasures upon the bunches of camels, 1 To a people that shall not profit them. 1
7For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: 1 Therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still. 1
8Now go, write it before them in a table, 1 And note it in a book, 1 That it may be for the time to come 1 For ever and ever: 1
9That this is a rebellious people, lying children, 1 Children that will not hear the law of the Lord: 1
10Which say to the seers, See not; 1 And to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, 1 Speak unto us smooth things, 1 Prophesy deceits: 1
11Get ye out of the way, 1 Turn aside out of the path, 1 Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. 1
12Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, 1 Because ye despise this word, 1 And trust in oppression and perverseness, 1 And stay thereon: 1
13Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, 1 Swelling out in a high wall, 1 Whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant. 1
14And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel 1 That is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: 1 So that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sheard 1 To take fire from the hearth, 1 Or to take water withal out of the pit. 1
15For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; 1 In returning and rest shall ye be saved; 1 In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: 1 And ye would not. 1
16But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; 1 Therefore shall ye flee: 1 And, We will ride upon the swift; 1 Therefore shall they that pursue you be swift. 1
17One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; 1 At the rebuke of five shall ye flee: 1 Till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, 1 And as an ensign on a hill. 1
18And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, 1 And therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: 1 For the Lord is a God of judgment: 1 Blessed are all they that wait for him. 1
19For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: 1 Thou shalt weep no more: 1 He will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; 1 When he shall hear it, he will answer thee. 1
20And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, 1 Yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, 1 But thine eyes shall see thy teachers: 1
21And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, 1 This is the way, walk ye in it, 1 When ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. 1
22Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, 1 And the ornament of thy molten images of gold: 1 Thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; 1 Thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence. 1
23Then shall he give the rain of thy seed, 1 That thou shalt sow the ground withal; 1 And bread of the increase of the earth, 1 And it shall be fat and plenteous: 1 In that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures. 1
24The oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground 1 Shall eat clean provender, 1 Which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan. 1
25And there shall be upon every high mountain, 1 And upon every high hill, 1 Rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, 1 When the towers fall. 1
26Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, 1 And the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, 1 As the light of seven days, 1 In the day that the Lord bindeth up the breach of his people, 1 And healeth the stroke of their wound. 1
27Behold, the name of the Lord cometh from far, 1 Burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: 1 His lips are full of indignation, 1 And his tongue as a devouring fire: 1
28And his breath, as an overflowing stream, 1 Shall reach to the midst of the neck, 1 To sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: 1 And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err. 1
29Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; 1 And gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe 1 To come into the mountain of the Lord, to the mighty One of Israel. 1
30And the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, 1 And shall shew the lighting down of his arm, 1 With the indignation of his anger, 1 And with the flame of a devouring fire, 1 With scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. 1
31For through the voice of the Lord shall the Assyrian be beaten down, 1 Which smote with a rod. 1
32And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, 1 Which the Lord shall lay upon him, 1 It shall be with tabrets and harps: 1 And in battles of shaking will he fight with it. 1
33For Tophet is ordained of old; 1 Yea, for the king it is prepared; 1 He hath made it deep and large: 1 The pile thereof is fire and much wood; 1 The breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.
