Isaiah · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Isaiah 33

Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; 1 And dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! 1 When thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; 1 And when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee. 1

O Lord, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: 1 Be thou their arm every morning, 1 Our salvation also in the time of trouble. 1

At the noise of the tumult the people fled; 1 At the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered. 1

And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpillar: 1 As the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them. 1

The Lord is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: 1 He hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness. 1

And wisdom and knowledge shall be 1 The stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: 1 The fear of the Lord is his treasure. 1

Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: 1 The ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly. 1

The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: 1 He hath broken the covenant, 1 He hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man. 1

The earth mourneth and languisheth: 1 Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: 1 Sharon is like a wilderness; 1 And Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits. 1

Now will I rise, saith the Lord; 1 Now will I be exalted; 1 Now will I lift up myself. 1

Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: 1 Your breath, as fire, shall devour you. 1

And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: 1 As thorns cut up shall they be burnt in the fire. 1

Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; 1 And ye that are near, acknowledge my might. 1

The sinners in Zion are afraid; 1 Fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. 1 Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? 1 Who amongst us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? 1

He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; 1 He that despiseth the gain of oppressions, 1 That shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, 1 That stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, 1 And shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; 1

He shall dwell on high: 1 His place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: 1 Bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. 1

Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: 1 They shall behold the land that is very far off. 1

Thine heart shall meditate terror. 1 Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? 1 Where is he that counted the towers? 1

Thou shalt not see a fierce people, 1 A people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; 1 Of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand. 1

Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: 1 Thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, 1 A tabernacle that shall not be taken down; 1 Not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, 1 Neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. 1

But there the glorious Lord will be unto us 1 A place of broad rivers and streams; 1 Wherein shall go no galley with oars, 1 Neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. 1

For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, 1 The Lord is our king; he will save us. 1

Thy tacklings are loosed; 1 They could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: 1 Then is the prey of a great spoil divided; 1 The lame take the prey. 1

And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: 1 The people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.
