Isaiah 44
Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; 1 And Israel, whom I have chosen: 1
Thus saith the Lord that made thee, 1 And formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; 1 Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; 1 And thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. 1
For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, 1 And floods upon the dry ground: 1 I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, 1 And my blessing upon thine offspring: 1
And they shall spring up as among the grass, 1 As willows by the water courses. 1
One shall say, I am the Lord’s; 1 And another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; 1 And another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, 1 And surname himself by the name of Israel. 1
Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, 1 And his redeemer the Lord of hosts; 1 I am the first, and I am the last; 1 And besides me there is no God. 1
And who, as I, shall call, 1 And shall declare it, and set it in order for me, 1 Since I appointed the ancient people? 1 And the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. 1
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: 1 Have not I told thee from that time, 1 And have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. 1 Is there a God besides me? 1 Yea, there is no God; I know not any. 1
They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; 1 And their delectable things shall not profit; 1 And they are their own witnesses; 1 They see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. 1
Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image 1 That is profitable for nothing? 1
Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: 1 And the workmen, they are of men: 1 Let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; 1 Yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. 1
The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, 1 And fashioneth it with hammers, 1 And worketh it with the strength of his arms: 1 Yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: 1 He drinketh no water, and is faint. 1
The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; 1 He fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, 1 And maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; 1 That it may remain in the house. 1
He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, 1 Which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: 1 He planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. 1
Then shall it be for a man to burn: 1 For he will take thereof, and warm himself; 1 Yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; 1 Yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; 1 He maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. 1
He burneth part thereof in the fire; 1 With part thereof he eateth flesh; 1 He roasteth roast, and is satisfied: 1 Yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, 1 I am warm, I have seen the fire: 1
And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: 1 He falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, 1 And saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. 1
They have not known nor understood: 1 For he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; 1 And their hearts, that they cannot understand. 1
And none considereth in his heart, 1 Neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, 1 I have burnt part of it in the fire; 1 Yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; 1 I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: 1 And shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? 1 Shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? 1
He feedeth on ashes: 1 A deceived heart hath turned him aside, 1 That he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, 1 Is there not a lie in my right hand? 1
Remember these, O Jacob 1 And Israel; for thou art my servant: 1 I have formed thee; thou art my servant: 1 O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. 1
I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, 1 And, as a cloud, thy sins: 1 Return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. 1
Sing, O ye heavens; for the Lord hath done it: 1 Shout, ye lower parts of the earth: 1 Break forth into singing, ye mountains, 1 O forest, and every tree therein: 1 For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, 1 And glorified himself in Israel. 1
Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, 1 And he that formed thee from the womb, 1 I am the Lord that maketh all things; 1 That stretcheth forth the heavens alone; 1 That spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; 1
That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, 1 And maketh diviners mad; 1 That turneth wise men backward, 1 And maketh their knowledge foolish; 1
That confirmeth the word of his servant, 1 And performeth the counsel of his messengers; 1 That saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; 1 And to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, 1 And I will raise up the decayed places thereof: 1
That saith to the deep, Be dry, 1 And I will dry up thy rivers: 1
That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, 1 And shall perform all my pleasure: 1 Even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; 1 And to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
