Isaiah 3

For behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, 1 Doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, 1 The whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water, 1

The mighty man, and the man of war, 1 The judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, 1

The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, 1 And the counseller, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator. 1

And I will give children to be their princes, 1 And babes shall rule over them. 1

And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: 1 The child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, 1 And the base against the honourable. 1

When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, 1 Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, 1 And let this ruin be under thy hand: 1

In that day shall he swear, saying, 1 I will not be a healer; 1 For in my house is neither bread nor clothing: 1 Make me not a ruler of the people. 1

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: 1 Because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, 1 To provoke the eyes of his glory. 1

The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; 1 And they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. 1 Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves. 1

Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: 1 For they shall eat the fruit of their doings. 1

Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: 1 For the reward of his hands shall be given him. 1

As for my people, children are their oppressors, 1 And women rule over them. 1 O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, 1 And destroy the way of thy paths. 1

The Lord standeth up to plead, 1 And standeth to judge the people. 1

The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: 1 For ye have eaten up the vineyard; 1 The spoil of the poor is in your houses. 1

What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, 1 And grind the faces of the poor? 1 Saith the Lord God of hosts. 1

Moreover the Lord saith, 1 Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, 1 And walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, 1 Walking and mincing as they go, 1 And making a tinkling with their feet: 1

Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, 1 And the Lord will discover their secret parts. 1

In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, 1 And their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, 1

The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, 1

The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, 1 And the tablets, and the earrings, 1

The rings, and nose jewels, 1

The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, 1 And the wimples, and the crisping pins, 1

The glasses, and the fine linen, 1 And the hoods, and the vails. 1

And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; 1 And instead of a girdle a rent; 1 And instead of well set hair baldness; 1 And instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; 1 And burning instead of beauty. 1

Thy men shall fall by the sword, 1 And thy mighty in the war. 1

And her gates shall lament and mourn; 1 And she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.
