Isaiah 13
The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see. 1
Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, 1 Exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, 1 That they may go into the gates of the nobles. 1
I have commanded my sanctified ones, 1 I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, 1 Even them that rejoice in my highness. 1
The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; 1 A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: 1 The Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle. 1
They come from a far country, from the end of the heaven, 1 Even the Lord, and the weapons of his indignation, 1 To destroy the whole land. 1
Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; 1 It shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. 1
Therefore shall all hands be faint, 1 And every man’s heart shall melt: 1
And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; 1 They shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: 1 They shall be amazed one at another; 1 Their faces shall be as flames. 1
Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, 1 Cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, 1 To lay the land desolate: 1 And he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 1
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: 1 The sun shall be darkened in his going forth, 1 And the moon shall not cause her light to shine. 1
And I will punish the world for their evil, 1 And the wicked for their iniquity; 1 And I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, 1 And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 1
I will make a man more precious than fine gold; 1 Even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. 1
Therefore I will shake the heavens, 1 And the earth shall remove out of her place, 1 In the wrath of the Lord of hosts, 1 And in the day of his fierce anger. 1
And it shall be as the chased roe, 1 And as a sheep that no man taketh up: 1 They shall every man turn to his own people, 1 And flee every one into his own land. 1
Every one that is found shall be thrust through; 1 And every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. 1
Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; 1 Their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished. 1
Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, 1 Which shall not regard silver; 1 And as for gold, they shall not delight in it. 1
Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; 1 And they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; 1 Their eye shall not spare children. 1
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, 1 The beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, 1 Shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. 1
It shall never be inhabited, 1 Neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: 1 Neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; 1 Neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. 1
But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; 1 And their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; 1 And owls shall dwell there, 1 And satyrs shall dance there. 1
And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, 1 And dragons in their pleasant palaces: 1 And her time is near to come, 1 And her days shall not be prolonged.
