Isaiah 29
1Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! 1 Add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices. 1
2Yet I will distress Ariel, 1 And there shall be heaviness and sorrow: 1 And it shall be unto me as Ariel. 1
3And I will camp against thee round about, 1 And will lay siege against thee with a mount, 1 And I will raise forts against thee. 1
4And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, 1 And thy speech shall be low out of the dust, 1 And thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, 1 And thy speech shall whisper out of the dust. 1
5Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, 1 And the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: 1 Yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly. 1
6Thou shalt be visited of the Lord of hosts 1 With thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, 1 With storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire. 1
7And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, 1 Even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, 1 Shall be as a dream of a night vision. 1
8It shall even be as when a hungry man dreameth, and behold, he eateth; 1 But he awaketh, and his soul is empty: 1 Or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and behold, he drinketh; 1 But he awaketh, and behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: 1 So shall the multitude of all the nations be, 1 That fight against mount Zion. 1
9Stay yourselves, and wonder; 1 Cry ye out, and cry: 1 They are drunken, but not with wine; 1 They stagger, but not with strong drink. 1
10For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, 1 And hath closed your eyes: 1 The prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. 1
11And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, 1 Which men deliver to one that is learned, 1 Saying, Read this, I pray thee: 1 And he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: 1
12And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, 1 Saying, Read this, I pray thee: 1 And he saith, I am not learned. 1
13Wherefore the Lord said, 1 Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, 1 And with their lips do honour me, 1 But have removed their heart far from me, 1 And their fear towards me is taught by the precept of men: 1
14Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work amongst this people, 1 Even a marvellous work and a wonder: 1 For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, 1 And the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. 1
15Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, 1 And their works are in the dark, 1 And they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? 1
16Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: 1 For shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? 1 Or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding? 1
17Is it not yet a very little while, 1 And Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, 1 And the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest? 1
18And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, 1 And the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. 1
19The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, 1 And the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. 1
20For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, 1 And all that watch for iniquity are cut off: 1
21That make a man an offender for a word, 1 And lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, 1 And turn aside the just for a thing of nought. 1
22Therefore thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, 1 Jacob shall not now be ashamed, 1 Neither shall his face now wax pale. 1
23But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, 1 They shall sanctify my name, 1 And sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, 1 And shall fear the God of Israel. 1
24They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, 1 And they that murmured shall learn doctrine.
