Isaiah 13

The massa (burden) of Bavel (Babylon), which Yeshayah Ben Amotz did see. 1

Lift ye up a nes upon the high mountain, 1 exalt the voice unto them, 1 shake the yad, 1 that they may go into the gates of the nobles. 1

I have commanded My Mekuddash, 1 I have also summoned My Gibbor for Mine anger, 1 even them that rejoice in My highness. 1

The noise of a hamon (multitude) in the harim (mountains), 1 like as of an Am Rav; 1 a tumultuous noise of the mamlechot (kingdoms) of Goyim gathered together; 1 Hashem Tzva'os mustereth the Tzava (army) of the milchamah (battle, war). 1

They come from an eretz merchak (a far country), 1 from the end of Shomayim, 1 Hashem, and the weapons of His indignation, 1 to destroy Kol HaAretz. 1

Wail ye; for the Yom Hashem is karov (near); 1 it shall come like shod (sudden destruction) from Shaddai. 1

Therefore shall kol yadayim (all hands) fall weak, 1 and kol levav enosh shall melt; 1

And they shall be afraid; 1 pangs and chavalim (pains) shall take hold of them; 1 they shall be in pain like a woman that travaileth in childbirth; 1 one shall be aghast at his re'a; 1 their faces shall be like flaming visages. 1

Hinei, the Yom Hashem cometh, 1 cruel both with wrath and charon af (fierce anger), 1 to lay the land desolate; 1 and He shall destroy the chatta'im (sinners) thereof out of it. 1

For the kokhavim of Shomayim and the constellations thereof 1 shall not give their ohr (light); 1 the shemesh shall be darkened in its rising 1 and the yarei'ach shall not cause its ohr to shine. 1

And I will punish the tevel (world) for ra'ah, 1 and the resha'im for their avon (iniquity); 1 and I will cause the ga'on (arrogance) of the proud to cease, 1 and will lay low the ga'avah (pride) of the tyrant. 1

I will make enosh more rare than rare gold; 1 even adam than the gold of Ophir. 1

Therefore I will shake Shomayim, 1 and Ha'Aretz (the Earth) shall move out of her makom (place), 1 in the evrat Hashem Tzva'os, 1 and in His Yom Charon Af. 1

And it shall be like deer chased, 1 and like tzon not gathered; 1 each ish turning to his people, 1 and each fleeing to his own land. 1

Every one that is found 1 yidaker (shall be pierced through, see Zech 12:10 for this same word and Moshiach); 1 and every one that is caught 1 shall fall by the cherev. 1

Their olelim (infants) also shall be dashed to pieces 1 before their eyes; 1 their batim (houses) shall be looted, 1 and their nashim ravished. 1

Hineni, I will stir up the Medes against them, 1 which shall not regard kesef; 1 and as for zahav, they shall not delight in it. 1

Their keshatot (bows) also shall tear ne'arim (young men) to pieces; 1 and they shall have no rachamim on the pri beten (fruit of the womb); 1 their eyes shall not pity banim. 1

And Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, 1 the tiferet ga'on Kasdim, 1 shall be as when Elohim overthrew 1 S'dom and Amora (Gomorrah). 1

Lo lanetzach (not ever) shall it be inhabited, 1 neither shall it be dwelt in ad dor vador; 1 neither shall the Arab pitch ohel there; 1 neither shall the ro'im rest their flock there. 1

But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; 1 and their batim (houses) shall be full of owls; 1 and ostriches shall dwell there, 1 and demons shall dance there. 1

And the wild beasts shall howl in their strongholds, 1 and jackals in their heichalot (palaces) of oneg (delight); 1 and her (Babylonʼs) time is karov (near, at hand) to come, 1 and her days shall not be prolonged.
