Isaiah 54

Sing, O akarah (barren woman), + 54:1 i.e., Yerushalayim emptied out by the Golus that Isaiah sees coming thou that didst not bear; 1 break forth into singing, and shout for joy, 1 thou that didst not travail with child; 1 for rabbim bnei shome'mah (more are the children of the desolate woman) + 54:1 i.e. referring to those of Jerusalem making aliyah from the Golus so that Moshiachʼs Kehillah can come forth at Jerusalem — Ac 2:41 1 than the bnei be'ulah (children of the married woman), + 54:1 i.e., Jerusalem as the Sarah at first barren then greatly fruitful; see Gn 17:16 saith Hashem. + 54:1 See Ga 4:27 1

Enlarge the makom (place, living area) of thy ohel, 1 and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine mishkenot (tents); 1 spare not, lengthen thy cords, 1 and thy stakes make chizzuk (stronger); 1

For thou shalt spread out on the yamin (right hand) and on the smol (left); 1 and thy zera shall inherit the Goyim, 1 and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. 1

Fear not; 1 for thou shalt not be ashamed; 1 neither be thou discouraged; 1 for thou shalt not suffer disgrace; 1 for thou shalt forget the boshet alumayich (the shame of thy youth), 1 and shalt not remember any more thy cherpat almenut (reproach of widowhood). 1

For thy Oseh (Maker) is thine ba'al (husband); 1 Hashem Tzva'os Shmo; 1 and thy Go'el is Kadosh Yisroel; 1 The Elohei Kol HaAretz He is called. 1

For Hashem hath called thee back, 1 thou who art like an isha forsaken and atzuvat ruach (grieved in spirit) 1 as a cast off eshet ne'urim (wife of oneʼs youth), 1 saith thy G-d. 1

For a rega katon (small moment) have I abandoned thee; 1 but with rachamim gedolim will I gather thee back. 1

With a little wrath 1 I hid My face from thee for a rega (moment); 1 but with chesed olam 1 will I have rachamim on thee, 1 saith thy Go'el, Hashem. 1

For this is as the waters of Noach unto Me; 1 for as I have sworn that the waters of Noach 1 should no more cover ha'aretz; 1 so have I sworn that with thee 1 I would not be in wrath nor rebuke thee. 1

For the harim (mountains) shall depart, 1 and the geva'ot (hills) be removed; 1 but My chesed shall not depart from thee, 1 neither shall the Brit of My Shalom be removed, 1 saith Merachamech Hashem ( Hashem the One having rachamim on thee). 1

O thou afflicted one, tempest-tossed and unconsoled, 1 hinei, I will lay thy stones of glistening colors, 1 and lay thy yesod (foundation, i.e., figuratively of post-Exilic Jerusalemʼs foundation) with sapphires. 1

And I will make thy battlements of rubies, 1 and thy she'arim (gates) of carbuncles, 1 and all thy walls of avnei chefetz (precious stones). 1

And all thy banim shall be taught of Hashem; 1 and the shalom of thy banim shall be rav (great). 1

In tzedakah (righteousness) shalt thou be established; 1 thou shalt be far from oshek (oppression, tyranny); f 1 or thou shalt not fear; 1 and thou shalt be far from mechitah (terror); 1 for it shall not come near thee. 1

Indeed, if attacking they stir up strife, it is not from Me; 1 whosoever shall gather together against thee, yipol (he shall fall) for thy sake. 1

See, I have created the charash (ironsmith, blacksmith) 1 that fanneth the red-hot coals in the eish (fire), 1 the one forging a keli (an instrument) for his ma'aseh (work); 1 and I have created the mashchit (destroyer, waster, spoiler) to destroy. 1

No keli (weapon, instrument) that is formed 1 against thee shall prosper; 1 and every leshon (tongue) that shall rise against thee in mishpat (judgment, accusation) 1 tarshi'i (thou shalt condemn, prove false, refute, prove wrong). 1 This is the nachalat avdei Hashem (the heritage of the servants of Hashem ), 1 and their tzedakah (righteousness, vindication) is from Me, saith Hashem.
