Isaiah 51
Pay heed to Me, ye that pursue tzedek, 1 ye that seek Hashem; 1 look unto the Tzur from where ye are cut, 1 and to the quarry from where ye were hewn. 1
Look unto Avraham Avichem, 1 and unto Sarah that gave birth to you; 1 for I called him as one alone, 1 and put a brocha on him, and made him many. 1
For Hashem shall comfort Tziyon; 1 He will comfort all her ruins; 1 and He will make her midbar like Eden, 1 and her ruins like the Gan (Garden) of Hashem; 1 sasson and simchah shall be found therein, 1 todah, and the kol zimrah (the sound of singing). 1
Pay heed unto Me, O My people; 1 and give ear unto Me, O My Nation; 1 for torah + 51:4 42:4 shall go forth from Me, 1 and I will set at rest + 51:4 establish My mishpat as Ohr Amim (Light for the Nations). 1
My tzedek is near; 1 My Salvation is gone forth, 1 and Mine zero'a shall judge the Ammim; 1 the iyim shall wait upon Me, 1 and on Mine zero'a + 51:5 Moshiach; See 53:1 shall they trust. 1
Lift up your eyes to Shomayim, 1 and look upon ha'aretz beneath; 1 for Shomayim shall vanish like ashan (smoke), 1 and ha'aretz shall wear out like a beged, 1 and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner; 1 but My Yeshu'ah (Salvation) shall be l'olam, 1 and My tzedakah shall not be dismayed. 1
Pay heed unto Me, ye that know tzedek, 1 Am torati velibam (the People with My torah in their heart); 1 fear ye not the cherpat enosh (the reproach, reviling of man) 1 neither be ye afraid of their giddufot (insults, scorn). 1
For the ahsh (moth) shall eat them up like a beged, 1 and the worm shall eat them like wool; 1 but My tzedakah shall be l'olam, 1 and My Yeshu'ah (Salvation) l'odor dorim (from generation to generation). 1
Awake, awake, 1 clothe thyself with oz, O zero'a Hashem; + 51:9 Moshiach; see Isa 53:1 1 awake, as in the yemei kedem, 1 in the dorot olamim. 1 Art thou not it that hath cut Rachav to pieces, 1 and pierced Tannin. + 51:9 See 27:1 1
Art thou not the One Who hath dried the yam, 1 the waters of the tehom rabbah; 1 that hath made the depths of the yam a derech 1 for the ge'ulim (redeemed ones) to cross over? 1
Therefore the Redeemed of Hashem shall return, 1 and come with singing unto Tziyon; 1 and simchat olam shall be upon their rosh; 1 they shall obtain sasson and simchah; 1 and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. 1
I, even I, am He that comforteth you. 1 Who art thou, that thou shouldest fear enosh that shall die, 1 and ben adam which shall be made as khatzir (grass); 1
And forgettest Hashem Osehcha (thy Maker), 1 that hath stretched out Shomayim, 1 and laid the foundations of Eretz; 1 and thou art terrified tamid (constantly), kol hayom, 1 because of the fury of the oppressor 1 when he is ready to destroy? 1 And where is the fury of the oppressor? 1
The tzo'eh (the one stooped [in the Golus]) hasteneth that he may be set free, 1 and that he should not die in shachat, 1 nor that his lechem should fail. 1
But I am Hashem Eloheicha 1 Who stirs up the yam, whose waves roar; 1 Hashem Tzva'os Shmo. 1
And I put My words in thy mouth, 1 and I have covered thee in the tzel (shadow) of Mine yad, 1 that I may set Shomayim in place, and lay the foundations of Eretz, 1 and say unto Tziyon: Thou art My people. 1
Awake, awake, rise up, O Yerushalayim, 1 which hast drunk at the Yad Hashem 1 the kos of His fury; thou hast drunk to the dregs 1 and drained dry the Kos HaTarelah (Cup of Reeling). 1
Among kol banim whom she hath given birth to, 1 there is none to guide her; 1 neither is there any that taketh her by the yad 1 of kol banim that she hath reared. 1
These two are come upon thee. 1 Who shall grieve for thee? 1 Shod and shever and ra'av (famine) and cherev; 1 with whom shall I console thee? 1
Thy banim have fainted, they lie at the rosh of all the streets, 1 like a wild bull in a net; 1 they are full of the chamat Hashem, 1 the rebuke of thy G-d. 1
Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted one, 1 thou drunken one, but not with yayin; 1
Thus saith thy L-rd Hashem, 1 and thy G-d that pleadeth the cause of His people: 1 Hinei, I have taken out of thine yad 1 the Kos HaTarelah (Cup of Reeling, the Cup that causes reeling), 1 even the dregs of the cup of My fury; 1 thou shalt no more drink it again; 1
But I will put it into the yad of them that torment thee; 1 which have said to thy nefesh, 1 Bow down, that we may walk over; 1 and thou hast laid thy gev (back) like the ground 1 and like the street, to them that walked over.
