Isaiah 9
The people that walked in choshech 1 have seen an Ohr gadol; 1 they that dwell in the eretz tzalmavet, 1 upon them hath the Ohr dawned. 1
Thou shalt multiply the Goy (Nation), 1 and increase its simchah; 1 they joy before Thee according to the simchat baKatzir, 1 and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 1
For Thou hast broken the ol (yoke) of his burden, 1 and the mateh (staff) of his shoulder, 1 the shevet hanogesh (rod of the task master) of him, 1 as in the yom of Midyan. + 9:3 See Judg 7:25 1
For every boot of the tramping warrior in the battleʼs tumult, 1 and simlah (garments) megolalah (rolled) in damim (blood) 1 shall be for burning and 1 ma'acholet eish (food for fire). 1
For unto us a yeled is born, 1 unto us ben is given; 1 and the misrah (dominion) shall be upon his shoulder; 1 and Shmo shall be called 1 Peleh (Wonderful), Yoetz (Counsellor), El Gibbor (Mighty G-d), 1 Avi Ad (Possessor of Eternity), Sar Shalom (Prince of Peace). 1
Of the increase of his misrah 1 and shalom there shall be no ketz (end), 1 upon the Kisse Dovid, 1 and upon his kingdom, 1 to strengthen it, and to support it with mishpat 1 and with tzedakah from henceforth 1 even ad olam (forever). 1 The Kinat Hashem Tzva'os will fulfill this. 1
Adonoi sent davar against Ya'akov, 1 and it hath fallen upon Yisroel. 1
And all HaAm shall know it, 1 even Ephrayim and the inhabitant of Shomron, 1 that say in the ga'avah (pride) and haughtiness levav (of heart), 1
The levenim (bricks) are fallen down, 1 but we will rebuild with cut stones; 1 the sycamores are cut down, 1 but we will replace them with cedars. 1
Therefore Hashem shall strengthen the adversaries of Retzin against him, 1 and spur on his enemies; 1
The Syrians from the east, and the Pelishtim from the west; 1 and they shall devour Yisroel with open mouth. 1 For all this His anger is not turned away, 1 but His yad is upraised still. 1
For HaAm turneth not unto Him that struck them, 1 neither do they seek Hashem Tzva'os. 1
Therefore Hashem will root out of Yisroel head and tail, 1 palm branch and reed, in yom echad. 1
The zaken and prominent man is the head; 1 and the navi that is the moreh sheker (teacher of lies, false teacher) is the tail. 1
For the me'ashrei HaAm HaZeh (leaders of this people) cause them to err; 1 and they that are led of them are destroyed. 1
Therefore Adonoi shall have no joy in their bocherim, 1 neither shall have mercy on their yetomim and almanot; 1 for every one is a chanef (g-dless, hypocritical) and an evildoer, 1 and every mouth speaketh nevalah (folly). 1 For all this His anger is not turned away, 1 but His yad is upraised still. 1
For wickedness burneth like eish; 1 it shall devour the briers and thorns, 1 and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, 1 and they shall smoke upward like the lifting up of ashan (smoke). 1
Through the Evrat Hashem Tzva'os (Wrath of Hashem of Hosts) 1 is the land darkened, 1 and HaAm shall be ma'acholet eish (food for fire); 1 no ish shall spare his brother. 1
And they grab on the yamin (right hand), and are still hungry; 1 and shall eat on the smol (left hand), and they shall not be satisfied; 1 they shall eat every ish the basar of his own zero'a; 1
Menasheh against Ephrayim; and Ephrayim, Menasheh; 1 they together shall be against Yehudah. 1 For all this His anger is not turned away; 1 His yad is upraised still.
