Isaiah 40
Comfort ye, comfort ye My people, saith Eloheichem. 1
Speak ye to the lev Yerushalayim, 1 and preach unto her, 1 that her tzeva'a (time of hard service, warfare) is ended, 1 that her avon (iniquity) is nirtzah (punitively paid for, pardoned); 1 for she hath received of the Yad Hashem kiflayim (double) 1 in payment for all her chattot. 1
The voice of him that preacheth in the midbar: 1 Prepare ye the Derech Hashem, 1 make straight in the Aravah 1 a highway for Eloheinu. 1
Every gey (valley) shall be raised up, 1 and every har and givah (hill) shall be made low; 1 and the crooked shall be made straight, 1 and the rough places bikah (plain, valley); 1
And the kavod Hashem shall be revealed, 1 and all basar shall see it together; 1 for the mouth of Hashem hath spoken. 1
The voice said, Preach. 1 And he said, What shall I preach? 1 All basar is khatzir (grass), 1 and all the chesed (constancy) thereof is as the tzitz (flower, blossom) of the sadeh; 1
The khatzir (grass) withereth, 1 the tzitz (flower, blossom) falleth; 1 because the Ruach of Hashem bloweth upon it; 1 surely the people is khatzir (grass). 1
The khatzir withereth, 1 the tzitz falleth; 1 but the Devar Eloheinu shall stand forever. 1
O Mevaseret Tziyon (O Herald, Preacher of Besorah [Good News, Gospel] Tziyon, O Lady Evangelist Tziyon), 1 get thee up into the har gavo'ah (high mountain); 1 O Mevaseret Yerushalayim (O Herald, Preacher of Besorah [Good News, Gospel] Yerushalayim, O Lady Evangelist Yerushalayim), 1 lift up thy voice with ko'ach; 1 lift it up, be not afraid; 1 say unto the towns of Yehudah, Hinei Eloheichem! 1
Hinei, Adonoi Hashem will come with chazak, 1 and His zero'a + 40:10 Moshiach, see Isa 53:1 shall rule for Him; 1 hinei, His sachar (reward) is with Him, 1 and His pe'ullah (work, recompense, retribution, penal reward [for His enemies]) before Him. 1
He shall feed His Eder like a Ro'eh; 1 He shall gather the tela'im (lambs) with His zero'a, 1 and carry them in His kheyk, 1 and shall gently lead those that are with young. 1
Who hath measured the mayim in the hollow of His Hand, 1 and meted out Shomayim with a handbreadth, 1 and enclosed the aphar ha'aretz in a measure, 1 and weighed the harim (mountains) in scales, 1 and the geva'ot (hills) in a balance? + 40:12 See Prov 30:4 . 1
Who hath directed the Ruach of Hashem, 1 or being His ish etzah (counselor) hath taught Him? 1
With whom did He take counsel, 1 and who gave Him binah, 1 and taught Him in the orakh mishpat, 1 and taught Him da'as, 1 and showed Him the derech tevunot (way of understanding, intelligence)? 1
Surely the Goyim are like a drop in a bucket, 1 and are accounted as dust of the scales; 1 surely He taketh up the iyim (islands) like fine dust. 1
Levanon is not sufficient to burn, 1 nor the beasts thereof sufficient for an olah. 1
Kol HaGoyim before Him are as nothing; 1 and they are counted to Him less than nothing, and tohu. 1
To whom then will ye liken El? 1 Or what demut (likeness) will ye compare unto Him? 1
The charash (workman, craftsman) melteth a pesel (idol, image), 1 and the goldsmith overlayeth it with zahav, 1 and casteth for it chains of kesef. 1
He that is so impoverished that He hath no terumah 1 chooseth an etz that will not rot; 1 he seeketh unto him a charash chacham (skilled craftsman) 1 to prepare a pesel, that shall not topple. 1
Have ye not known? 1 Have ye not heard? 1 Hath it not been told you from the beginning? 1 Have ye not understood from the mosedot ha'aretz (foundations of the earth)? 1
It is He that sitteth above the circle of the earth, 1 and the inhabitants thereof are like chagavim (grasshoppers); 1 that stretcheth out Shomayim like a curtain, 1 and spreadeth them out like an ohel to dwell in; 1
That bringeth the roznim (rulers) to nothing; 1 He maketh the Shoftei Eretz like tohu. 1
Indeed, they shall not be planted; 1 indeed, they shall not be sown; 1 indeed, their stem shall not take root ba'aretz (in the ground); 1 and He shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, 1 and the se'arah (storm wind) shall take them away like the kash (straw, stubble, chaff). 1
To whom then will ye liken Me, or shall I be equal? 1 saith the Kadosh. 1
Lift up your eyes marom (on high, i.e. into the heavens), and behold: 1 Who hath created + 40:26 T.N. This chapter needs to be seen also in light of Acts chapter 2, and Jerusalemʼs Besurah HaGeulah proclaimed there. these things, 1 that bringeth out their tzeva'a (host, legions) by mispar (number); 1 He calleth them all b'shem (by name); 1 because of the abundance of His power and the might of His ko'ach, 1 not one [star] is missing. 1
Why sayest thou, O Ya'akov, 1 and speakest, O Yisroel: 1 My derech is hid from Hashem, 1 and my mishpat is passed over and disregarded by Elohai? 1
Hast thou not known? 1 Hast thou not heard, 1 that the Elohei Olam, Hashem, 1 Boreh Ketzot HaAretz (Creator of the ends of the earth), 1 fainteth not, neither is weary? 1 There is no searching of His tevunah (understanding, intelligence). 1
He giveth ko'ach to the faint; 1 and to them that have no might He increaseth power. 1
Even the ne'arim (youths) shall faint and grow weary, 1 and the bochurim shall utterly fall; 1
But they that wait upon Hashem shall renew their ko'ach; 1 they shall mount up with wings as eagles; 1 they shall run, and not grow weary; 1 and they shall walk, and not faint.
