Isaiah 42
Here is Avdi, + 42:1 Moshiach, see Zech 3:8; Isa 52:13 whom I uphold; 1 Mine Bechir (Elect One, Chosen One), in whom My nefesh delighteth; 1 I have put My Ruach + 42:1 Hakodesh upon Him; 1 He + 42:1 Moshiach shall bring forth mishpat to the Goyim. 1
He + 42:2 Moshiach shall not cry out, nor lift up His kol (voice), 1 nor cause it to be heard in the street. 1
A bruised reed shall He + 42:3 Moshiach not break, 1 and a smoking wick shall He not quench; 1 He shall bring forth mishpat according to emes. 1
He + 42:4 Moshiach shall not fail nor be discouraged, 1 till He establish mishpat ba'aretz; 1 and the iyim shall wait for His (Moshiachʼs) torah. + 42:4 1C 9:21 1
Thus saith HaEl Hashem, 1 Boreh HaShomayim, and the One stretching them out; 1 He that spread out ha'aretz, and that which cometh out of it as produce; 1 He that giveth neshamah (soul) unto HaAm upon it, 1 and ruach to them that walk thereon: + 42:5 See 1Th 5:23 1
I Hashem have called Thee in tzedek, 1 and will take hold of Thine yad, and will keep Thee, 1 and give Thee + 42:6 Moshiach for a Brit + 42:6 Mt 26:28 (Covenant) of the Am (People), 1 for an Ohr Goyim; 1
To open the einayim ivrot (blind eyes), 1 to bring out the captives from confinement, 1 and them that sit in choshech out of the bais keleh (dungeon, prison). 1
I am Hashem, that is Shmi; 1 and My kavod will I not give to another, 1 neither My tehillah (praise) to pesilim. 1
Hinei, the rishonot (former things) are come to pass, 1 and chadashot (new things) do I declare; 1 before titzmachnah (they spring forth; Tzemach) 1 I tell you of them. 1
Sing unto Hashem a shir chadesh (new song), 1 and His tehillah from the ketzeh ha'aretz, 1 ye that go down to the yam, and all that is therein. 1 You iyim (islands), and the inhabitants thereof. 1
Let the midbar and the towns thereof lift up their voice, 1 the villages that Kedar doth inhabit; 1 let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy, 1 let them shout from the rosh harim. 1
Let them give kavod unto Hashem, 1 and declare His tehillah in the iyim. 1
Hashem shall go forth like a Gibbor, 1 He shall arouse kina (zeal) like an ish milchamah; 1 He shall shout, indeed, raise a war cry; 1 He shall prevail against His oyevim. 1
I have me'olam held My peace; 1 I have been quiet, and refrained Myself; 1 now will I cry out like a travailing woman; 1 I will lay waste and devour at once. 1
I will lay waste harim and geva'ot (hills), 1 and dry up all their esev (vegetation); 1 and I will make the neharot into iyim, 1 and I will dry up agamim (pools, lakes). 1
And I will bring the ivrim (blind) 1 by a derech that they knew not; 1 I will lead them in paths 1 that they have not known; 1 I will make choshech into ohr before them, 1 and crooked things straight. 1 These things will I do unto them, 1 and not forsake them. 1
They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, 1 that trust in pesel, 1 that say to the masekhah (molten images): 1 You (plural) are eloheinu (our g-ds). 1
Hear, ye chereshim (deaf people); 1 and look, ye ivrim (blind people) that ye may see. 1
Who is ivver (blind), but Avdi? + 42:19 Yisroel 1 Or cheresh (deaf), like malachi that I sent? 1 Who is ivver (blind) like meshullam (the one committed), + 42:19 to Me 1 and ivver like the Eved Hashem. + 42:19 i.e., Yisroel 1
Seeing rabbot, but thou observest not; 1 opening the oznayim, but he heareth not. 1
Hashem is well pleased lema'an (for the sake of) His tzedek; 1 He will magnify the torah, and make it glorious. 1
But this is Am (People) robbed and looted; 1 they are all of them snared in holes, 1 or hidden in batei kela'im (dungeons): 1 they are for plunder, 1 and none delivereth; 1 for loot, and none saith, Give it back! 1
Who among you will give ozen (ear) to this? 1 Who will pay heed and hear for the time to come? 1
Who gave Ya'akov as loot, 1 and Yisroel to ones plundering? 1 Did not Hashem, He against Whom we have sinned? 1 For they would not walk in the darkhei HaShem, 1 neither were they obedient unto His torah. 1
Therefore He hath poured upon it 1 the chemah (burning heat) of His anger, 1 and the strength of the fury of milchamah; 1 and it hath set him on fire round about, 1 yet it knew not; 1 and it consumed it, 1 yet it laid it not to lev.
