Isaiah 33

Hoy (woe, doom) to thee that destroyest, and thou wast not destroyed; 1 and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously as a boged (traitor, treacherous person) with thee! 1 When thou shalt cease to destroy, thou shalt be destroyed; 1 and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously as a boged with thee. 1

Hashem, be gracious unto us; 1 we have waited for Thee; 1 be Thou their zero'a in the bekarim (mornings), 1 our Yeshu'ah (salvation) also in the time of tzoros. 1

At the noise of the tumult the peoples fled; 1 at the lifting up of Thyself the Goyim were scattered. 1

And your shalal (booty, plunder, gain) shall be gathered 1 like the gathering of the locusts; 1 as the swarm of grasshoppers 1 shall men pounce upon them. 1

Hashem is exalted; for He dwelleth on high; 1 He hath filled Tziyon with mishpat and tzedakah. 1

And He shall be the emunah (faithfulness, stability) of thy times, 1 a rich store of Yeshu'ah (salvation), chochmah, and da'as; 1 the yirat Hashem is his otzar (treasure). 1

Behold, their valiant ones shall cry in the street; 1 the malachei shalom shall weep bitterly. 1

The mesillot (highways) lie in ruins, 1 the wayfaring man ceaseth; 1 he hath annulled the brit (covenant), 1 he hath despised the towns, 1 he regardeth no enosh (humankind). 1

Ha'aretz mourneth and languisheth; 1 Levanon is ashamed and shriveled; 1 Sharon is like an aravah; 1 and Bashan and Carmel shake off their foliage. 1

Now will I arise, saith Hashem; 1 now will I be exalted; 1 now will I lift up Myself. 1

Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth straw; 1 your ruach (breath), as eish, shall devour you. 1

And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime; 1 as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the eish. 1

Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; 1 and, ye that are near, acknowledge My gevurah (might). 1

The chatta'im (sinners) in Tziyon are terrified; 1 trembling hath seized the khanafim (hypocrites). 1 Who among us can dwell with the devouring eish? 1 Who among us can dwell with mokedei olam + 33:14 see Dan 12:2 (everlasting burnings)? 1

He that walketh in tzedakot, and speaketh meisharim (right things), 1 he that despiseth the gain of extortions, 1 that guards his palms from accepting shochad (bribe[s]), 1 that stoppeth his ozen from hearing of dahm, 1 and shutteth his eynayim from seeing rah; 1

He shall dwell on high; 1 his metzadot shall be the rocky fortress; 1 his lechem shall be given him; his mayim shall be unfailing. 1

Thine eynayim shall see Melech in His yafeh (beauty); 1 they shall behold eretz that is very far off. 1

Thine lev shall ponder terror. 1 Where is the sofer (scribe)? 1 Where is he who weighs? + 33:18 for Assyrian tax collection 1 Where is he that counts the migdalim (towers)? 1

Thou shalt no longer see a fierce people, 1 a people of unfathomable language that is incomprehensible, 1 of a stammering lashon, that thou canst not understand. 1

Look upon Tziyon, the city of mo'adenu (our appointed times, festivals); 1 thine eynayim shall see Yerushalayim 1 a quiet naveh, 1 an ohel that shall not be taken down; 1 not one stake thereof shall ever be pulled up, 1 neither shall any of the ropes thereof be broken. 1

But there Adir Hashem will be unto us 1 a makom (place) of broad rivers and streams; 1 wherein shall go no galley with oars, 1 neither shall a mighty ship pass thereby. 1

For Hashem is our Shofet, 1 Hashem is Mechokkeinu (our Lawgiver), 1 Hashem is Malkeinu; 1 Hu yoshieinu (He will save us). 1

Thy riggings are loosed; 1 they could not well strengthen their mast, 1 they could not spread the nes (sail); 1 then is the shalal (spoil, plunder) of a great plunder divided; 1 the pisechim (lame ones) take the plunder. 1

And the inhabitant [of Yerushalayim] shall not say, I am ill; 1 the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their avon.
