Isaiah 59

Behold, the Yad Hashem is not too short, that it cannot save; 1 neither His ozen (ear) too kaved (hard, insensitive, heavy, dull) that it cannot hear; 1

But your avonot (iniquities) have separated you and Eloheichem, 1 and your chattot (sins) have concealed His face from you, 1 that He will not hear. 1

For your hands are defiled and polluted with dahm, 1 and your fingers with avon (iniquity); 1 your lips have spoken sheker, 1 your leshon (tongue) hath muttered avlah (perverseness, wickedness, iniquity, lashon hora). 1

None calleth + 59:4 unto Hashem b'tzedek (in righteousness), 1 nor any pleadeth b'emunah (in faithfulness, in truth); 1 they trust in tohu (nothingness), + 59:4 nothingness, see Gn 1:2 and speak shav (vanity); 1 they conceive amal (trouble), and give birth to aven (wickedness). 1

They hatch the beytzim (eggs) of the tzifoni (viper, poisonous snake), 1 and weave the webs of the akavish (spider); 1 he that eateth of their beytzim (eggs) dieth, 1 and of that which is cracked open, an efeh (kind of poisonous snake) is hatched. 1

Their webs shall not become beged (garments), 1 neither shall they cover themselves with their ma'asim; 1 their ma'asim are ma'asei aven (works of wickedness), 1 and the po'al chamas (act of violence) is in their hands. 1

Their raglayim (feet) run to rah, 1 and they make haste for shefach dahm naki (blood shed of the innocent); 1 their machsh'vot (thoughts) are machsh'vot of aven (wickedness); 1 shod (desolation) and shever (destruction) are on their highways. 1

Of the Derech Shalom they have no da'as; 1 and there is no mishpat (justice) in their circuits; 1 they have made themselves crooked roads; 1 whosoever walketh thereon shall not know shalom. 1

Therefore is mishpat (justice) far from us, 1 neither doth tzedakah overtake us; 1 we wait for ohr, but, hinei, choshech; 1 for negohot (brightness), but we walk in gloom. 1

We grope by the wall like the ivrim (blind), 1 and we grope as if we had no einayim (eyes); 1 we stumble at tzohorayim (noon) as in twilight; 1 we are in full vigor and stout, yet we are as mesim (dead ones). 1

We all growl like dubim (bears), 1 and moan continually like yonim (doves); 1 we look for mishpat, but there is none; 1 for Yeshu'ah (Salvation), but it is far off from us. 1

Because peysha'einu (our rebellions) have multiplied before Thee, 1 and chattoteinu (our sins) testify against us; 1 for peysha'einu are still with us; 1 and as for avonoteinu (our iniquities), we acknowledge them: 1

In rebelling against and kachash (denying) Hashem, 1 and nasog (turning away) from Eloheinu, 1 speaking oshek (oppression) and sarah (revolt), 1 conceiving and uttering from the lev (heart) divrei sheker (words of falsehood). 1

And mishpat (justice) is turned back, 1 and tzedakah (righteousness) standeth afar off; 1 for emes (truth) is fallen in the rechov (street), 1 and nacho'ach (honesty) cannot enter. 1

Indeed, emes (truth) faileth; 1 and he that departeth from rah (evil) 1 maketh himself a prey; 1 And Hashem saw it, 1 and it was displeasing in His sight 1 that there was no mishpat (justice). 1

And He saw that there was no ish (man), 1 and was appalled that there was no Mafgi'a (Intercessor); 1 therefore His own Zero'a (Arm) wrought Salvation unto Him; 1 and His own tzedakah (righteousness) He relied on. + 59:16 Isa 53:1; Jer 23:6 1

For He put on tzedakah as breastplate armor, 1 and a helmet of Yeshu'ah (Salvation, Saving Power) upon His rosh; 1 and He put on the bigdei nakam (garments of vengeance) for a uniform, 1 and was clad with kinah (zeal) as a me'il (mantle, cloak). 1

According to their gemulot (deeds, dealings), so He will repay, 1 chemah (fury, wrath) to His adversaries, gemul (recompence) to His oyevim (enemies); 1 to the iyim (islands) He will repay gemul (recompence, due). 1

So shall they fear the Shem Hashem from the ma'arav (west), 1 and His kavod from the rising of the shemesh. 1 When the enemy shall come in like a nahar (flood, river), 1 the Ruach + 59:19 Hakodesh of Hashem shall lift up a standard against him. 1

And the Go'el (Redeemer, Moshiach) shall come to Tziyon, 1 and unto them that make teshuva and turn from peysha (rebellion) in Ya'akov, 1 saith Hashem. + 59:20 See Ro 11:26

As for Me, this is My Brit + 59:21 see Isa 42:6; 49:8; 54:10; 55:3 (Covenant) with them, + 59:21 i.e., with Moshiachʼs zera, see Isa 53:10 saith Hashem; My Ruach + 59:21 Hakodesh that is upon thee, + 59:21 Moshiach, see Isa 11:2; 42:1; 48:16; 61:1 and My words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy zera, + 59:21 Isa 53:10 nor out of the mouth of the zera of thy zera, + 59:21 i.e. Moshiachʼs zera generationally saith Hashem, from henceforth and ad olam (forever).
