Isaiah 50
1Thus saith Hashem: 1 Where is the Sefer Keritut (Bill of Divorce) 1 by which I sent your Em (Mother) away? 1 Or which Nosheh (Creditor) of Mine is it 1 to whom I have sold you [into slavery]? 1 Behold, for your avonot (iniquities) have ye been sold, 1 and for your peysha'im (rebellions) was your Em sent away. 1
2Why, when I came, was there no ish (man [at all] to respond)? 1 When I called, was there none to answer? 1 Is My Yad too short, that it cannot redeem? 1 Or have I no ko'ach (power) to save? 1 Behold, at My rebuke I dry up the yam (sea), 1 I make the neharot (rivers) a midbar (desert); 1 their dag (fish) stink, because there is no mayim, 1 and die of tzama (thirst). 1
3I clothe Shomayim with blackness, 1 and I make sackcloth their covering. 1
4Adonoi Hashem hath given Me + 50:4 Moshiach; see 2Sm. 7:5 ; Zech. 3:8 and Isa 52:13 1 the leshon limmudim + 50:4 see 8:16 (learned tongue of disciples), 1 that I should know how to speak a devar (word, i.e., word of consolation) in season to him that is weary; 1 He wakeneth baboker baboker (morning by morning), 1 He wakeneth Mine ozen (ear) 1 to hear as the limmudim (disciples, those being taught). 1
5Adonoi Hashem hath opened Mine ozen (ear), 1 and I was not rebellious, 1 neither did I turn back. + 50:5 cf. Gn 3:8 1
6I + 50:6 Moshiach offered My gev (back) to them that deliver blows, 1 and My lekhi (cheeks) to them that pulled out: + 50:6 the beard 1 I hid not My face from kelimot (humiliations, shame) 1 and rok (spitting, saliva). 1
7For Adonoi Hashem will help Me; + 50:7 Moshiach 1 therefore shall I not be disgraced; 1 therefore have I set My face + 50:7 as hard as khalamish (flint [See Lk 9:51]), 1 and I know that I shall not be ashamed. 1
8He that vindicateth + 50:8 i.e., maintains My Righteousness is karov (near), 1 who will contend with Me? 1 Let us stand together. 1 Who is Mine Ba'al Mishpat (Adversary in court, the one bringing charges)? 1 Let him draw near to + 50:8 confront Me [in court]. 1
9See, Adonoi Hashem will help Me. + 50:9 Moshiach 1 Who is he that shall condemn Me? 1 See, they all shall wear out like a beged (garment); 1 the ahsh (moth) shall eat them. 1
10Who among you that feareth Hashem, 1 that obeyeth the voice of His Eved, + 50:10 Moshiach 1 though he may have walked in chashekhim (darknesses), 1 with no gleam of light for himself, 1 let him trust B'Shem Hashem, 1 and lean upon Elohav. 1
11See, all ye that kindle an eish (fire), 1 ye that prepare for battle with zikot (flashing firebrands), 1 walk in the light of the fire of your [own making] 1 and among the zikot (flashing firebrands) that ye have set burning, 1 and this shall ye have from My Yad; 1 ye shall lie down in ma'atze'vah (torment, pain, grieving). + 50:11 See Isa 66:24; Dan 12:2; Ps 75:8
