Isaiah 26

In that day shall this shir (song) 1 be sung in Eretz Yehudah: 1 We have an Ir Oz (a city of strength); 1 Yeshu'ah (salvation) is that which He makes [its] chomot (walls) and outer wall. 1

Open ye the She'arim, 1 that the Goy Tzaddik (right-with-G-d people) 1 which is shomer emunim (keeping faith) may enter in. 1

Thou wilt keep him in shalom shalom, 1 whose yetzer (mind-set) is stayed on Thee; 1 because he trusteth in Thee. 1

Trust ye in Hashem forever; 1 for in G-d Hashem is Tzur Olamin; 1

For He bringeth down them that dwell on marom (high); 1 the lofty city, He layeth it low; 1 He layeth it low, even ad eretz; 1 He bringeth it even to aphar (dust). 1

The regel (foot) shall trample it down, 1 even the feet of the oni (oppressed), 1 and the footsteps of the dalim (poor, downtrodden, needy). 1

The Orakh Latzaddik (way of the just) is meiysharim (altogether level, upright, direct ones); 1 Thou, O Yashar (Upright One, Straight One), straighten the ma'agal (circuit) of the tzaddik. 1

Indeed, in the orakh of Thy mishpatim, Hashem, 1 have we waited for Thee; 1 our ta'avat nefesh (yearning of soul) 1 is for Thy Shem, and for the zekher (memory, remembrance) of Thee. 1

With my nefesh have I desired thee in the lailah; 1 yes, with my ruach within me will I seek Thee; 1 for when Thy mishpatim are upon ha'aretz, 1 the inhabitants of the tevel will learn tzedek. 1

Let grace be shown to the rasha, 1 yet he will not learn tzedek; 1 in the Eretz Nekhochot (Land of Straightforwardness) he will deal unjustly, 1 and will not regard the ge'ut Hashem (majesty, exaltedness of Hashem ). 1

Hashem, when Thy Yad (hand, power) is lifted up, 1 they will not see; 1 but let them see and be ashamed 1 of their kinat Am (envy of [G-dʼs] people); 1 indeed, the eish of Thine enemies shall devour them. 1

Hashem, Thou wilt ordain shalom for us; 1 for Thou also hast wrought 1 all our ma'asim (works, deeds) in us. 1

Hashem Eloheinu, 1 other adonim besides Thee have had dominion over us; 1 but by Thee only do we keep Thy Shem in remembrance. 1

They are mesim (dead ones), they shall not live; 1 they are refa'im (dead ones), + 26:14 See Job 26:5 they shall not rise; 1 therefore Thou hast visited and destroyed them, 1 and made all their zekher (memory) to perish. 1

Thou hast increased the Goy (nation, people), Hashem, 1 Thou hast increased the Goy; Thou hast gained glory; 1 Thou hadst extended all the borders of the Eretz. 1

Hashem, in tzoros have they visited Thee, 1 they davened a lachash (whisper) 1 when Thy musar (chastening) was upon them. 1

Like a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, 1 in travail, and crieth out in her pangs; 1 so have we been in Thy sight, Hashem. 1

We have been with child, we have been in pain, 1 we have as it were brought forth ruach (wind); 1 we have not wrought yeshu'ot (salvation of any kind) in Eretz; 1 neither have inhabitants of the tevel (world) been born. 1

Thy mesim + 26:19 see also Dan 12:2 (dead men) shall live, 1 together with my nevelah (dead bodies, corpses) shall they arise. 1 Awake and sing for joy, ye that dwell in aphar (dust); 1 for Thy tal (dew) is like the orot tal (morning dew), 1 and Eretz shall give birth to repha'im (dead ones). 1

Come, My people, enter thou into thy chederim, 1 and shut thy delatot behind thee; 1 hide thyself for a little rega (moment, while), 1 until the za'am (wrath, indignation [of G-d]) has passed. 1

For, hinei, Hashem goeth forth from His Makom (place, home) 1 to punish the avon (iniquity) of inhabitants of ha'aretz; 1 ha'aretz also shall disclose her dahm, 1 and shall no more cover over her slain.
