Isaiah 64
As eish burneth brushwood, 1 eish causeth the mayim to boil, 1 [O, that Thou wouldst come down] to make Thy Shem known to Thine adversaries, 1 that the Goyim might tremble at Thy presence! 1
When Thou didst terrible things 1 which we looked not for, 1 Thou camest down, 1 the harim shook at Thy presence. 1
For me'olam (since ancient times) no one hath heard, 1 nor perceived by the ozen, 1 neither hath the ayin seen any Elohim besides Thee, 1 Who acts on behalf of him that waiteth for Him. 1
Thou meetest with him that rejoiceth to work tzedek, 1 those that remember Thee in Thy drakhim; 1 see, Thou art in wrath; for we have been in sins; 1 in them a long time, and shall we be saved? 1
But we are all as the tameh (unclean thing), 1 and kol tzidkoteinu (all our righteousness, our righteous deeds, works) are like beged iddim (filthy rags, a garment of menstruation); 1 and we all do fade like the aleh (leaf); 1 and avoneinu (our iniquities), like the ruach, have taken us away. 1
And there is none that calleth upon Thy Shem, 1 that stirreth up himself to take hold of Thee; 1 for Thou hast hid Thy face from us, 1 and hast consumed us, because of avoneinu. 1
But now, Hashem, Thou art Avinu (Our Father); 1 we are the chomer (clay), and Thou, Yotzreinu (our Potter, Maker, Creator); 1 and we all are the ma'aseh (work) of Thy yad. 1
Be not in wrath ad me'od, Hashem, 1 neither remember avon forever; 1 behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all Thy people. 1
Arei Kadsheicha (Thy holy cities) are a midbar, 1 Tziyon is a midbar, 1 Yerushalayim, a desolation. 1
Beis Kadsheinu v'Tifarteinu, 1 where Avoteinu praised Thee, 1 is burned up with eish; 1 and kol machamadeinu (all our desiring) is in ruins. 1
Wilt Thou refrain Thyself after these things, Hashem? 1 Wilt Thou hold Thy peace, and afflict us ad me'od?
