Psalms 107

O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: 1 For his mercy endureth for ever. 1

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, 1 Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 1

And gathered them out of the lands, 1 From the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 1

They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; 1 They found no city to dwell in. 1

Hungry and thirsty, 1 Their soul fainted in them. 1

Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, 1 And he delivered them out of their distresses. 1

And he led them forth by the right way, 1 That they might go to a city of habitation. 1

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, 1 And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 1

For he satisfieth the longing soul, 1 And filleth the hungry soul with goodness. 1

Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, 1 Being bound in affliction and iron; 1

Because they rebelled against the words of God, 1 And contemned the counsel of the most High: 1

Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; 1 They fell down, and there was none to help. 1

Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, 1 And he saved them out of their distresses. 1

He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, 1 And brake their bands in sunder. 1

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, 1 And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 1

For he hath broken the gates of brass, 1 And cut the bars of iron in sunder. 1

Fools because of their transgression, 1 And because of their iniquities, are afflicted. 1

Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; 1 And they draw near unto the gates of death. 1

Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, 1 He saveth them out of their distresses. 1

He sent his word, and healed them, 1 And delivered them from their destructions. 1

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, 1 And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 1

And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, 1 And declare his works with rejoicing. 1

They that go down to the sea in ships, 1 That do business in great waters; 1

These see the works of the Lord, 1 And his wonders in the deep. 1

For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, 1 Which lifteth up the waves thereof. 1

They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: 1 Their soul is melted because of trouble. 1

They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, 1 And are at their wit’s end. 1

Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, 1 And he bringeth them out of their distresses. 1

He maketh the storm a calm, 1 So that the waves thereof are still. 1

Then are they glad because they be quiet; 1 So he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 1

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, 1 And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 1

Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, 1 And praise him in the assembly of the elders. 1

He turneth rivers into a wilderness, 1 And the watersprings into dry ground; 1

A fruitful land into barrenness, 1 For the wickedness of them that dwell therein. 1

He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, 1 And dry ground into watersprings; 1

And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, 1 That they may prepare a city for habitation; 1

And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, 1 Which may yield fruits of increase. 1

He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; 1 And suffereth not their cattle to decrease. 1

Again, they are minished and brought low 1 Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow. 1

He poureth contempt upon princes, 1 And causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way. 1

Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, 1 And maketh him families like a flock. 1

The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: 1 And all iniquity shall stop her mouth. 1

Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, 1 Even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
