Psalms 81
Sing aloud unto God our strength: 1 Make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob. 1
Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, 1 The pleasant harp with the psaltery. 1
Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, 1 In the time appointed, on our solemn feast day. 1
For this was a statute for Israel, 1 And a law of the God of Jacob. 1
This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, 1 When he went out through the land of Egypt: 1 Where I heard a language that I understood not. 1
I removed his shoulder from the burden: 1 His hands were delivered from the pots. 1
Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; 1 I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: 1 I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah. 1
Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: 1 O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me; 1
There shall no strange god be in thee; 1 Neither shalt thou worship any strange god. 1
I am the Lord thy God, 1 Which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: 1 Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. 1
But my people would not hearken to my voice; 1 And Israel would none of me. 1
So I gave them up unto their own heart’s lust: 1 And they walked in their own counsels. 1
O that my people had hearkened unto me, 1 And Israel had walked in my ways! 1
I should soon have subdued their enemies, 1 And turned my hand against their adversaries. 1
The haters of the Lord should have submitted themselves unto him: 1 But their time should have endured for ever. 1
He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: 1 And with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.
