Psalms 139

O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. 1

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, 1 Thou understandest my thought afar off. 1

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, 1 And art acquainted with all my ways. 1

For there is not a word in my tongue, 1 But lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 1

Thou hast beset me behind and before, 1 And laid thine hand upon me. 1

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; 1 It is high, I cannot attain unto it. 1

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? 1 Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 1

If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: 1 If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 1

If I take the wings of the morning, 1 And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 1

Even there shall thy hand lead me, 1 And thy right hand shall hold me. 1

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; 1 Even the night shall be light about me. 1

Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; 1 But the night shineth as the day: 1 The darkness and the light are both alike to thee. 1

For thou hast possessed my reins: 1 Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 1

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: 1 Marvellous are thy works; 1 And that my soul knoweth right well. 1

My substance was not hid from thee, 1 When I was made in secret, 1 And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 1

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; 1 And in thy book all my members were written, 1 Which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 1

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God: 1 How great is the sum of them! 1

If I should count them, they are moe in number than the sand: 1 When I awake, I am still with thee. 1

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: 1 Depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. 1

For they speak against thee wickedly, 1 And thine enemies take thy name in vain. 1

Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? 1 And am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? 1

I hate them with perfect hatred: 1 I count them mine enemies. 1

Search me, O God, and know my heart: 1 Try me, and know my thoughts: 1

And see if there be any wicked way in me, 1 And lead me in the way everlasting.
