Psalms 73
Truly God is good to Israel, 1 Even to such as are of a clean heart. 1
But as for me, my feet were almost gone; 1 My steps had well nigh slipt. 1
For I was envious at the foolish, 1 When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 1
For there are no bands in their death: 1 But their strength is firm. 1
They are not in trouble as other men; 1 Neither are they plagued like other men. 1
Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; 1 Violence covereth them as a garment. 1
Their eyes stand out with fatness: 1 They have more than heart could wish. 1
They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: 1 They speak loftily. 1
They set their mouth against the heavens, 1 And their tongue walketh through the earth. 1
Therefore his people return hither: 1 And waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. 1
And they say, How doth God know? 1 And is there knowledge in the most High? 1
Behold, these are the ungodly, 1 Who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. 1
Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, 1 And washed my hands in innocency. 1
For all the day long have I been plagued, 1 And chastened every morning. 1
If I say, I will speak thus; 1 Behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children. 1
When I thought to know this, 1 It was too painful for me; 1
Until I went into the sanctuary of God; 1 Then understood I their end. 1
Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: 1 Thou castedst them down into destruction. 1
How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! 1 They are utterly consumed with terrors. 1
As a dream when one awaketh; 1 So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image. 1
Thus my heart was grieved, 1 And I was pricked in my reins. 1
So foolish was I, and ignorant: 1 I was as a beast before thee. 1
Nevertheless I am continually with thee: 1 Thou hast holden me by my right hand. 1
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, 1 And afterward receive me to glory. 1
Whom have I in heaven but thee? 1 And there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. 1
My flesh and my heart faileth: 1 But God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. 1
For lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: 1 Thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. 1
But it is good for me to draw near to God: 1 I have put my trust in the Lord God, 1 That I may declare all thy works.
