Psalms 89
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: 1 With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. 1
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: 1 Thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. 1
I have made a covenant with my chosen, 1 I have sworn unto David my servant, 1
Thy seed will I stablish for ever, 1 And build up thy throne to all generations. Selah. 1
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: 1 Thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints. 1
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? 1 Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord? 1
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, 1 And to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. 1
O Lord God of hosts, 1 Who is a strong Lord like unto thee? 1 Or to thy faithfulness round about thee? 1
Thou rulest the raging of the sea: 1 When the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. 1
Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; 1 Thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm. 1
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: 1 As for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them. 1
The north and the south thou hast created them: 1 Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name. 1
Thou hast a mighty arm: 1 Strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. 1
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: 1 Mercy and truth shall go before thy face. 1
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: 1 They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance. 1
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: 1 And in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. 1
For thou art the glory of their strength: 1 And in thy favour our horn shall be exalted. 1
For the Lord is our defence; 1 And the Holy One of Israel is our king. 1
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, 1 And saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; 1 I have exalted one chosen out of the people. 1
I have found David my servant; 1 With my holy oil have I anointed him: 1
With whom my hand shall be established: 1 Mine arm also shall strengthen him. 1
The enemy shall not exact upon him; 1 Nor the son of wickedness afflict him. 1
And I will beat down his foes before his face, 1 And plague them that hate him. 1
But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: 1 And in my name shall his horn be exalted. 1
I will set his hand also in the sea, 1 And his right hand in the rivers. 1
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father, 1 My God, and the rock of my salvation. 1
Also I will make him my firstborn, 1 Higher than the kings of the earth. 1
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, 1 And my covenant shall stand fast with him. 1
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, 1 And his throne as the days of heaven. 1
If his children forsake my law, 1 And walk not in my judgments; 1
If they break my statutes, 1 And keep not my commandments; 1
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, 1 And their iniquity with stripes. 1
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, 1 Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. 1
My covenant will I not break, 1 Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. 1
Once have I sworn by my holiness 1 That I will not lie unto David. 1
His seed shall endure for ever, 1 And his throne as the sun before me. 1
It shall be established for ever as the moon, 1 And as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah. 1
But thou hast cast off and abhorred, 1 Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed. 1
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: 1 Thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. 1
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; 1 Thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin. 1
All that pass by the way spoil him: 1 He is a reproach to his neighbours. 1
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; 1 Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice. 1
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, 1 And hast not made him to stand in the battle. 1
Thou hast made his glory to cease, 1 And cast his throne down to the ground. 1
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: 1 Thou hast covered him with shame. Selah. 1
How long, Lord? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? 1 Shall thy wrath burn like fire? 1
Remember how short my time is: 1 Wherefore hast thou made all men in vain? 1
What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? 1 Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah. 1
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, 1 Which thou swarest unto David in thy truth? 1
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; 1 How I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; 1
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Lord; 1 Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed. 1
Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
