Psalms 55
Give ear to my prayer, O God; 1 And hide not thyself from my supplication. 1
Attend unto me, and hear me: 1 I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise; 1
Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: 1 For they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me. 1
My heart is sore pained within me: 1 And the terrors of death are fallen upon me. 1
Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, 1 And horror hath overwhelmed me. 1
And I said, O that I had wings like a dove, 1 For then would I fly away, and be at rest. 1
Lo, then would I wander far off, 1 And remain in the wilderness. Selah. 1
I would hasten my escape 1 From the windy storm and tempest. 1
Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: 1 For I have seen violence and strife in the city. 1
Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: 1 Mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it. 1
Wickedness is in the midst thereof: 1 Deceit and guile depart not from her streets. 1
For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: 1 Neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: 1
But it was thou, a man mine equal, 1 My guide, and mine acquaintance. 1
We took sweet counsel together, 1 And walked unto the house of God in company. 1
Let death seize upon them, 1 And let them go down quick into hell: 1 For wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them. 1
As for me, I will call upon God; 1 And the Lord shall save me. 1
Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: 1 And he shall hear my voice. 1
He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: 1 For there were many with me. 1
God shall hear, and afflict them, 1 Even he that abideth of old. Selah. 1 Because they have no changes, 1 Therefore they fear not God. 1
He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: 1 He hath broken his covenant. 1
The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: 1 His words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords. 1
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: 1 He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. 1
But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: 1 Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; 1 But I will trust in thee.
