Psalms 137

By the rivers of Babylon, 1 there we sat down, yes, we wept, 1 when we remembered Tziyon. 1

We hung up our kinnorot (lyres) 1 upon the willows in the midst thereof. 1

For there they that carried us away captive 1 required of us a shir (song); 1 and they that tormented us required of us simchah, 1 saying, Sing us one of the Shir Tziyon. 1

How shall we sing Shir Hashem 1 in an admat nekhar (foreign land). 1

If I forget thee, O Yerushalayim, 1 let my yamin (right hand) forget. + 137:5 i.e., have paralysis 1

If I do not remember thee, 1 let my leshon cleave to the roof of my mouth; 1 if I prefer not Yerushalayim 1 above my rosh simchah (chief joy). 1

Remember, Hashem, the Bnei Edom 1 in the Yom Yerushalayim; 1 who said, Raze it, raze it, 1 even to the yesod (foundation) thereof. 1

O Bat Bavel, who art to be destroyed, 1 ashrei shall he be, that repayeth thee 1 the gemul thou hast done to us. 1

Ashrei shall he be, 1 that taketh and dasheth thy olalim against the sela.
