Psalms 139
(For the one directing, Mizmor of Dovid) 1
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, 1 Thou hast binah of my thought from afar off. 1
Thou comprehendeth my path and my lying down, 1 and art acquainted with all my drakhim. 1
For there is not a milah (word) in my leshon, 1 but, lo, Hashem, Thou knowest it altogether. 1
Thou hast enclosed me achor (behind) and kedem (before), 1 and laid Thine hand upon me. 1
Such da'as is too wonderful for me; 1 it is high, I cannot attain unto it. 1
To where can I go from Thy Ruach? + 139:7 Hakodesh 1 Or to where shall I flee from Thy presence? 1
If I ascend up into Shomayim, Thou art there; 1 if I make my bed in Sheol, hinei, Thou art there. 1
If I take the wings of the shachar (dawn), 1 and dwell in the uttermost acharit yam (the extreme end of the sea); 1
Even there shall Thy yad lead me, 1 and Thy yamin shall hold me. 1
If I say, Surely the choshech shall cover me, 1 even the lailah shall be ohr about me. 1
Even the choshech is not dark to Thee; 1 but the lailah shineth as the yom; 1 the choshech and the ohr are both alike to Thee. 1
For Thou hast possessed my inmost being; 1 Thou didst interweave me in the beten immi. 1
I will praise Thee; 1 for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; 1 marvellous are Thy ma'asim; and that my nefesh knoweth very well. 1
My atzamim (bones, frame) were not hid from Thee, 1 when I was made beseter (in secret), 1 and skillfully wrought in the depths of the Eretz. 1
Thine eyes did see my golem (embryo), 1 yet being unformed; 1 and in Thy Sefer (Book) all the yamim (days) ordained for me were written down, 1 when as yet there were none of them. 1
How precious also are Thy thoughts unto me, O El! 1 How great is the sum of them! 1
If I should count them, they are more in number than the chol (sand); 1 when I awake, I am still with Thee. 1
Surely Thou wilt slay the rasha, O Eloah; 1 depart from me therefore, ye anshei damim (bloodthirsty men). 1
For they speak of Thee craftily, 1 and it is taken lashav + 139:20 Ex 20:7 by Thy enemies. 1
Should not I hate them, Hashem, that hate Thee? 1 And am not I to be at odds with those that rise up against Thee? 1
I abhor them with complete sinah; 1 I count them mine enemies. 1
Search me, O El, and know my levav; 1 test me, and know my thoughts; 1
And see if there be any derech otzev (torturous crooked road) in me, 1 and lead me in the Derech Olam.
