Psalms 35
(Of Dovid) 1 fight against them that fight against me. 1
Take hold of mogen and tzinnah (large shield) 1 and arise to my aid. 1
Draw out also the khanit (spear), 1 and block the way against them that persecute me; 1 say unto my nefesh, 1 I am Thy Yeshu'ah (salvation). 1
Let them be put to shame and disgraced 1 that seek after my nefesh; 1 let a rout in retreat be theirs 1 and let them be brought to dismay that plot my ruin. 1
Let them be like motz (chaff) before the ruach; 1 and let the Malach Hashem drive them away. 1
Let their derech be choshech and slippery; 1 and let the Malach Hashem pursue them. 1
For without cause have they hid for me 1 their reshet (net) in a shachat (pit), 1 which without cause they dug for my nefesh. 1
Let sho'ah (disaster) come upon him unawares; 1 and let his own reshet (net) that he hath hid ensnare him; 1 into that very sho'ah let him fall. 1
And my nefesh shall rejoice in Hashem; 1 it shall be joyful in His Yeshu'ah (salvation). 1
All my atzmot shall say, 1 Hashem, mi khamocha (who is like Thee), 1 Who deliverest the oni (poor) from him that is too strong for him, 1 yes, the oni and the evyon (needy) from him that despoileth him? 1
Edei chamas (witnesses of violence, false witnesses) rise up; 1 they lay to my charge things, questioning me of that which I have no da'as. 1
They repay me ra'ah for tovah 1 to the forlornness of my nefesh. 1
But as for me, when they were choleh (ill), 1 my clothing was sackcloth; 1 I humbled my nefesh with tzom (fasting); 1 and my tefillah (prayer) turned back on mine own kheyk (bosom). 1
I went about as though 1 he had been my re'a or ach; 1 I bowed in sadness, 1 as one that mourneth for his em. 1
But at mine stumbling they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together; 1 yes, the attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I had no da'as; 1 they did tear at me, + 35:15 with slander and ceased not: 1
Like chanef (hypocritical) mockers at cake, 1 they gnashed upon me with their teeth. 1
Adonoi, how long wilt Thou look on? 1 Rescue my nefesh from their destructions, 1 my yechidah (only one, my life) from the lions. 1
I will give Thee thanks in the kahal rav (great congregation); 1 I will praise Thee among the mighty throng. 1
Let not them that are mine oyevim 1 gloat over me; 1 neither let them wink with the eye 1 that have sinas chinom (baseless hatred) toward me. 1
For they speak not shalom, 1 but they scheme divrei mirmot (deceitful matters) 1 against the rigei eretz (them that are quiet in the land). 1
Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, 1 and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it. 1
This Thou hast seen, Hashem; 1 keep not silent; Adonoi, be not far from me. 1
Stir up Thyself, and awake to my mishpat, 1 even to my cause, Elohai and Adonoi. 1
Vindicate me, Hashem Elohai, according to Thy tzedakah; 1 and let them not gloat over me. 1
Let them not say in their lev, 1 Ah, so would we have it; 1 let them not say, 1 We have swallowed him up. 1
Let them be put to shame and brought to confusion together 1 that gloat at mine ra'ah (disaster, distress); 1 let them be clothed with boshet (shame) and kelimah (dishonor, disgrace) 1 that exalt themselves against me. 1
Let them sing for joy, and be glad, 1 that favor my tzedek (righteousness, vindication); 1 yes, let them say tamid (continually), Let Hashem be magnified, 1 which hath pleasure in the shalom (welfare) of His eved. 1
And my leshon (tongue) shall speak of Thy tzedek (righteousness) 1 and of Thy tehillah (praise) kol hayom (all the day).
