Psalms 73
1(Mizmor of Asaph) 1 even to the barei levav (pure of heart). 1
2But as for me, my raglayim had almost stumbled; 1 my steps had well near slipped. 1
3For I had kina (envy) of the holelim (arrogant ones), 1 when I saw the shalom of the resha'im. 1
4For there are no chartzubot (fetters, bonds, pains) in their mot; 1 healthy is their belly. 1
5They are not in amal (trouble) as enosh; 1 neither are they plagued like adam. 1
6Therefore ga'avah encircleth them like a chain necklace; 1 chamas enwraps them like a garment. 1
7Their eyes bulge with chelev; 1 they have more than levav could imagine. 1
8They mock, and speak wickedly concerning oshek (oppression); 1 they speak from marom (on high). 1
9They set their mouth against Shomayim, 1 and their leshon stalketh in ha'aretz. 1
10Therefore their people return here; 1 and mayim to the full are swallowed down by them. 1
11And they say, How doth El (G-d) know? 1 And is there knowledge in Elyon? 1
12Hinei, these are the resha'im; 1 at ease olam, they increase in riches. 1
13Surely in vain have I cleansed my lev, 1 and washed my hands in innocency. 1
14For kol hayom have I been plagued, 1 and chastened in the bekarim (mornings). 1
15If I say, I will speak thus; 1 hinei, I would have dealt faithlessly with the dor banecha (the generation of Thy children). 1
16When I thought to comprehend this, 1 it was amal (difficulty) in my eyes; 1
17Until I went into the Mikdeshei El; 1 then I had binah (understanding) of their (the wickedʼs) destiny. 1
18Surely Thou didst set them in slippery places; 1 Thou castedst them down into mashu'ot (ruins, destruction). 1
19How are they brought into desolation, as in a rega (moment)! 1 They are utterly consumed with balahot (terrors). 1
20As a chalom when one awaketh; 1 so, Adonoi, when Thou art aroused, + 73:20 in judgment Thou shalt despise their tzelem (shadowy form). 1
21Thus my levav was grieved, 1 and I was pricked in my mind. 1
22So senseless was I, and ignorant; 1 I was like behemot before Thee. 1
23Nevertheless I am with Thee tamid (always); 1 Thou hast taken hold of me by my yamin. 1
24Thou shalt guide me with Thy etzah (counsel), 1 and afterward take me to kavod (glory). 1
25Whom have I in Shomayim but Thee? 1 And there is none upon HaAretz that I desire beside Thee. 1
26My flesh and my levav may fail; 1 but Elohim is the Tzur of my levav, and my chelek l'olam. 1
27For, hinei, they that are far from Thee shall perish; 1 Thou hast destroyed all them that go zoneh (a-whoring) from Thee. 1
28But kiravat Elohim (drawing near to Elohim) is tov for me; 1 I make in Adonoi Hashem my refuge, 1 that I may declare all Thy deeds.
