Psalms 40
(For the one directing, Of Dovid. Mizmor) 1
I waited patiently for Hashem; 1 and He inclined unto me, 1 and heard my cry. 1
Hashem brought me up also out of a horrible pit, 1 out of the miry clay, 1 and set my feet upon a rock, 1 and established my goings. 1
And He hath put a shir chadash in my mouth, 1 even tehillah (hymn of praise) unto Eloheinu; 1 many shall see it, and fear, 1 and shall trust in Hashem. 1
Ashrei is that man that maketh Hashem his trust, 1 and looketh not to the proud ones, 1 nor such as turn aside to lies (false g-ds). 1
Many, O Hashem Elohai, 1 are Thy wonderful works which Thou hast done, 1 and Thy thoughts which are to us-ward; 1 they cannot be recounted unto Thee; 1 if I would declare and speak of them, 1 they are more than can be numbered. 1
Zevach and minchah Thou didst not desire; 1 mine ears hast Thou pierced; + 40:7 cf Ps 22:17 1 olah (burnt offering) and chata'ah (sin offering) hast Thou not required. 1
Then said I, Hinei, I come; 1 in the megillat sefer it is written of me, + 40:8 cf MJ 10:5-7 1
I delight to do Thy will, O Elohai; 1 yea, Thy torah is within my heart. 1
I have preached tzedek in the kahal rav (great congregation); 1 hinei, I have not restrained my lips, 1 O Hashem, Thou knowest. 1
I have not hid thy tzedek within my lev; 1 I have declared Thy emunah (faithfulness) and Thy teshuah (salvation); 1 I have not concealed Thy chesed 1 and Thy emes from the kahal rav. 1
Withhold not Thou thy rachamim from me, O Hashem; 1 let Thy chesed and Thy emes continually preserve me. 1
For innumerable evils have compassed me about; 1 mine avonot (iniquities) have overtaken me, 1 so that I am not able to look up; 1 they are more than the hairs of mine head; 1 therefore my lev faileth me. 1
Be pleased, O Hashem, to deliver me; 1 O Hashem, make haste to help me. 1
Let them be ashamed and mutually confounded 1 that seek after my nefesh to destroy it; 1 let them be driven backward and put to shame 1 that wish me evil. 1
Let them be appalled because of their boshet (shame) 1 that say unto me, Aha, aha. 1
Let all those that seek Thee 1 rejoice and be glad in Thee; 1 let such as love Thy teshuah say continually: 1 Hashem be magnified! 1
But I am poor and needy; 1 yet Adonoi thinketh upon me; 1 Thou art my ezer and my deliverer; 1 make no tarrying, O Elohai.
