Psalms 42
(For the one directing, Maskil, for the Bnei Korach) 1
As the deer panteth after the water brooks, 1 so panteth my nefesh after Thee, O Elohim. 1
My nefesh thirsteth for Elohim, 1 for El Chai. 1 When shall I come and appear before Elohim? + 42:3 in the Beis Hamikdash 1
My tears have been my lechem yomam valailah, 1 while they continually say unto me, 1 Where is Eloheicha? 1
When I remember these things, 1 I pour out my nefesh within me; 1 for I had gone with the multitude, 1 I went with them to the Beis Elohim 1 with the voice of rinnah and todah, 1 with the multitude keeping Chag (holy day, pilgrim feast). 1
Why art thou cast down, O my nefesh? 1 And why groanest thou + 42:6 i.e., murmuring in discouragement within me? 1 Hope thou in + 42:6 i.e., wait for Elohim; for I shall yet give Him thanks, 1 for He is the yeshu'ah (salvation) of my countenance and Elohai. 1
My nefesh is cast down within me; 1 therefore will I remember Thee 1 from Eretz Yarden, and from Chermonʼs peaks, 1 from Har Mitzar. + 42:7 mountain near Mt Chermon 1
Tehom el Tehom ([oceanic] deep unto [oceanic] deep) calleth 1 at the noise of Thy waterfalls; 1 all Thy breakers and Thy billows 1 are passed over me. 1
Yet Hashem will command His chesed by day, 1 and in the night His shir (song) shall be with me, 1 my tefillah (prayer) unto the El Chayyai (G-d of my life). 1
I will say unto El Sali (G-d my Rock), 1 Why hast Thou forgotten me? 1 Why go I mourning 1 because of the oppression of the oyev (enemy)? + 42:10 Mt 27:46 1
As with the crushing of my atzamot (bones), 1 mine tzorer (vexers, harassers) reproach me; 1 while they say all day long unto me, 1 Where is Eloheicha? 1
Why art thou cast down, O my nefesh? 1 And why art thou disquieted within me? 1 Hope thou in (wait for) Elohim; 1 for I shall yet give Him thanks, 1 for He is the yeshu'ah (salvation) of my countenance and Elohai.
